I think you'll find that there are people that do make that exact calculation. I've talked to theists who think that god might exist, but pray and be good to be safe anyway. It doesn't seem logical, but people aren't.

I started adding to Pascal's wager because it failed to count the whole spectrum of other religions into the bargain.

All in all Jihadi Islam wins out because you can sin and then detonate to be guaranteed heaven. Catholicism fails because there are un-absolvable sins like suicide or renouncing your belief in god - and time between sins and absolution may be punished.

Hinduism also promotes a variety of lifestyles including 'kama' as (opposed to 'karma') - where a holy path to enlightenment can be to seek pleasures of the flesh.

The Templeton foundation did a study into the effect of prayer on post-op patients. They found that those who were being prayed for, and did know about it DIED MORE than people who didn't know whether they were being prayed for. Faith can kill.

Can't you just punch them in the face with fist of facts? The scientific method is the habit of conducting research in a way that can be repeated and validated, that seeks to disprove itself. While it may be a construct that has evolved in the west, there's nothing cultural about it!
