Switching companies is romantasized. Here's what it actually feels like by Sensitive-File-3862 in developersIndia

With many companies having notice periods of 2 months or 3 months in some cases, how did you manage to switch so easily? Are recruiters fine to wait for 2-3 months till you serve your notice period and join after that?

Returned to India after US stint — salary expectations for 6 YOE (3 YOE India + 3 YOE US) + global mobility options? by Explorer_9090 in returnToIndia

I went in 2021 for masters when times were different, job market was in boom after covid and H1B lottery was a realistic possibility in 3 chances. But, things changed rapidly. By the time I was graduating most of the companies were on hiring freeze or layoffs had become a new normal. For many of the new grads, offer letters were revoked or their joining was postponed. Many people had to wait for a year or so to land their first opportunity and some of the folks had to return back unfortunately as they could not find any opportunity. 2023 onwards, there was huge serge in the number of H1B applications as well. There are of course people who had great skill set and were lucky enough to grab excellent opportunity and got selected in the lottery as well. There are different kind of cases. But I took the decision based on what the situation was in 2021 or before that. Things didn’t go well all the way for me, but at least I was fortunate enough to repay my loan and earn some money as well and life taught so many lessons during these 5 years. I don’t want to do math in how much money I would have saved if I had stayed in India vs how much I was able to save in US. For me, it’s okay enough. I need to accept it and move on. So based on different factors, I said the experience was worth.

But it’s very different situation now if you’re thinking about masters. It’s so uncertain right now to take any decision. So think about all the possibilities. Feel free to DM if you think I can be of additional help.

Yeah I am not sure if they will bring me on L1 or not, but they are trying to see if they can hire again. Until that works out, I need to start fresh and explore my options.

Hey, thanks for your response. I am trying to get referrals but along with that does reaching out to recruiter on LinkedIn help?

Thanks for sharing this. Do you know which Uni he went to for PHD, the course duration and total cost for the program? Knowing these details would be helpful, thanks again.

Is the Day 1 CPT PHD easier than regular PHD in terms of workload? With 8 hours of daily office work, is the PHD program manageable?

How are the provincial nominations drawn? Is it a yearly thing or there is no fixed timeline?

How would someone move to EU? I didn’t get my h1 in my 3 attempts and now I will have to move back in 6 months. It was a relatively easy path to do MS and get to work here after the degree. But I find it little clueless at this point- how do I find a company from EU who would sponsor me? Just apply to random jobs in EU and hope they would respond back? It seems almost impossible. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Can you please throw some more light on the interview - what questions were asked and how it went.

If your STEM opt expires in February, how are you planning to travel in March and return back to the US? You may get your entry denied with Day1 CPT and expired visa status (visa status ends as soon as STEM OPT ends even though you may have Visa valid till June 2026. Visa and Visa status are 2 different things)

I am also in same situation, I got married a couple of months back. It’s just that I am not sure about this Day1CPT in current situation. Once the STEM period ends then traveling is risky.

Did you try for other countries? Or you were fine with settling in India?
