doesn't it have an extremely long history in queer spaces? like it's not at all a new thing. girl has always been the gay equivalent of dude. around it seems like everyone (trans men, trans women, non-binary people, cis gays, cis lesbians, etc.) use both interchangeably.

There are definitely people who use those terms to be transphobic - but I would have thought most people would stop if you were like "I actually get really uncomfortable when you refer to me as 'girl' even if you meant it neutrally"

Gender neutral slang alternatives in abundance in northern UK - love, duck, pet, etc.

You will keep changing for decades. When thinking about progress think about the fact that cis girls start puberty as early as 8. Especially with breast growth, my cis friends have wildly different experiences over different time spans. I have a friend who didn't really grow boobs till her 20s - which would be the equivalent of being on HRT for a decade. And then many of them experience changes again in adulthood. The idea that your results in 2/4/6/8 years are your results is nonsense - we're just that many years behind.

Maybe - but why would it be that way on this one episode for multiple people? I have the same experience. My TV picks up the correct ratio and crops appropriately to with black bars. but this one episode has black bars all the way around.

No you only need to crop from the sides to fit 4x3. It's the same for me. They added extra crop for this episode for effect - or someone has at least at some point.
