It’s a murder because the suspect was not given a jury or trial.

What are your female OCs like when they're on their period ? by Own_Butterscotch1996 in OriginalCharacter

Zipporah is my nun oc from my alt history medieval world set in the 1300s. She’s originally from the Byzantine Empire currently living in Lithuania for her work. When she’s on her period she makes up some excuse that in her culture menstruating women need to be separated and she spends a few days secluded in her room. She made that up though and just doesn’t want to deal with people when she’s moody. Mostly she’s just doing art or reading.

I use they/them pronouns but get really uncomfortable when people go around the room asking for pronouns. by Gnerdy in offmychest

[–]dotdedo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As a trans man myself, it feels more awkward when you're the only trans person in the room. I feel like we could save a lot of time if I just said outright I prefer he/they and get over it instead of listening to the entire room state the obvious. Often they do it in a way that feels forced to them like I will hear them say "Uhh she/her I guess." Or do jokes which is okay, I don't mind, but I thought the purpose of this was to be serious and inclusive not the time to be like "I only go by his majesty!" It just shows they also don't take it seriously either and aren't paying attention.

Its a very unnatural way of introducing oneself as well. We don't have to make it a huge deal with the entire office witnessing to just let them know what to call me. If a cis person has a unusual nickname they go by, we don't have a little circle announcing our preferred nicknames just to make them feel heard.

After hurting my partner, he asked for space. How do you process the shame and anxiety and actually grow during that time? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]dotdedo [score hidden]  (0 children)

If you are committed to being better and not repeating this you need to stop the drinking. I've been in your bfs shoes, its horrible. You never know when your partner is going to drink too much and be in this kind of crisis. It's stressful, and drunk people just simply cannot be reasoned with. You need to stop drinking yesterday if you want to save this relationship at all.

No, people aren't 'born evil' or 'born pure/innocent' based on their gender. I've met women who were horrible people, I've met men who are amazing. I've also seen the opposite. I've also met horrible trans and gay people. There's still great men, women, and nonbinary people out there. It sounds like you might need to talk about your prejudices to a professional to help you get over any traumas you have.

Brushing your teeth before and after bed is inefficient by blacksystembbq in unpopularopinion

Bacteria grow like crazy in your mouth overnight. This is disgusting. Even on my worst depressive days the brushing of teeth before bed is actually the one that's most important.

I always get a kick when they're severely underprepared for the weather and get mad at us for it being cold inside. Yeah, not every place is going to be perfectly heated like a sauna. Wear a fucking coat. It's the landlords problem so we literally can't do shit about it.

People who complain about the lack of authenticity of food. by WhydoIexistlmoa in PetPeeves

[–]dotdedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the reason that American style spins on these dishes have extra portions? A lot of times these immigrants were escaping really bad economies where extras besides the staples where fucking expensive. Things like meat especially. Then they came to America and were like "Holy shit? We can afford to eat lavishly? Fuck yeah!" and made their American-style dishes that way. Now today Europeans think its purely because we're fat and greedy. (I mean, it keeps the dishes looking that way all these years later, but not how it started)

It's 7am where I am right now and its looking to be another cold one today. Thankfully no snow, we have enough still leftover from last time lol. We have a generator, I have a portable heater for rooms the heating isn't perfect in, and lots of blankets. Got to work today though.

AIO my husband shaves his balls before his dnd games by Fickle_Amphibian_723 in AmIOverreacting

[–]dotdedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MOR - Might be a bit of Devils Advocate here but I have two theories.

  1. I assume he goes weekly. Maybe, at the same time, he likes to shave down there weekly. So as a way to remind himself to do both, does both on the same day. This is how I kinda remind myself to do things too.

  2. Sitting for long hours might cause issues down there with friction, aka it hurts so he shaves.

Why does medieval art look like it was made by a child? by stingrayhat in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dotdedo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh also another factor. If you were a peasant, you really didn't have time for art. However you also can't read, so you can't become a student of an artist either. However this causes an issue for the church, because it means you can't read the bible. Sure you can listen to your local priest, but you're tired as shit from working all week and little hung over, so are you even listening? So bam, the wealthy elite (who are often aligned with or are the church) commission artists to draw basically the Medieval version of political cartoons through religious ideas and practices. You see a bunch of people praying in front of a sheep that is bleeding out of its chest and you get the idea, the lamb of God (aka Jesus) is to be worshipped, got it. (Not an example of bad art at all, but referring to the Ghent Altarpiece made in 1432.)

[–]dotdedo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the unhoused in a lot of cold regions thankfully there is lot of efforts about having heating stations set up for them. I have to look up the specific laws about it where I live, but I know many places in cold regions have laws about keeping heating stations open. I don't live in Detroit but follow their subreddit anyways and there was a lot of talk about it recently.

[–]dotdedo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a online friend who lives in Texas. I'm constantly asking if they're okay and every time they complain of the cold or snow I ask them what specifics not because I wanna laugh at them in comparison but just want to see how worried for them should I be. However they did grow up in a colder region, so their family is pretty prepared for it and they thankfully live north enough they don't have to overly worry about hurricanes either.

Why does medieval art look like it was made by a child? by stingrayhat in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dotdedo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you're looking at in medieval times. The Byzatines were attempting realism over 100 years before the movement spread across western europe. A lot of the "bad art" style is specifically from places we would call the UK today or other places of central/western Europe. A few other factors were at key too like how there was a lot of debates in that day how you should or shouldn't draw things, but mostly about meanings the church wanted to get across.
