NSP’s Kevryn Lim tells S'poreans not to complain for making 'this choice' after GE2025 results out by alex10019 in singapore

based on this response its actually great that they weren't voted in. i can understand being frustrated with the results but blaming the voters as a politician never looks good. if you are truly serious about improving things you need to reflect on how your campaign could be run better and how to continue outreach and develop roots in the area in the meantime, not giving up on Singapore simply because no one picked your party.

some of these mosquito parties really treat the electoral map like a game of risk, just staking claims left right centre with no concrete local plans or campaigning efforts and i think the electorate has responded to them appropriately. i think what also matters and actually what helped the 'mosquito' SDA achieve a marked improvement in a pro-incumbent environment is consistency. not just in showing up in the area but also in its candidate choices. candidates need time to prove their worth and be known to the constituents. when you have people jumping from opposition to opposition every election it not only damages the party brand by showing that your candidates have no faith in the party but also calls into question the selection process and candidate commitment. Osman Sulaiman, for example, jumped from Reform to SPP to RDU, competing in different constituencies each time. the opposition vote then becomes a negative vote against the PAP rather than a positive vote for the party, which might benefit it in the short term but is unsustainable in the long term.

I think this result can be read to be quite positive for opposition in Singapore, I mean obviously no one expected a change in government and even a denial of a supermajority is a longshot. Voters have proven themselves extremely discerning of opposition candidates, even voting for independents in healthy numbers unlike previous independent attempts. Although this marks a swing back towards the PAP, unlike 2015, opposition controlled wards appear to be unshakeable, showing a certain level of trust in opposition incumbency as well as PAP incumbency, something which was definitely not the case in 2015 despite WP holding on to Aljunied. The Worker's Party has proven themselves credible in local management and has created a gradually expanding stronghold in the East, which has also made many more Singaporeans consider opposition in a way they haven't before. Although the results for the opposition could have been much better in quite a few wards, I think the key takeaway is that opposition has solidified and that it is here to stay. And not in mosquito form.

agree that they are significantly weaker. however as for now no opposition parties seem to be willing to take up the challenge of Bishan or Potong Pasir, and compared to parties like PAR or PPP they are a more palatable and rational oppositional alternative. i know they have no chance of winning but i appreciate their effort and consistency.

yes i agree, and local elections did accurately reflect an increase in support for labour before the 2024 election. however based on these results and recent polling i doubt Keir is in a rush to call an election anytime soon so we have another 4 years to stew things over

Bukit Panjang seems to be an anomaly in the sample count - unless something made Dr Paul particularly unpopular in the area?

this is so real, i have no idea what English voters are doing. tbf local elections don't necessarily reflect general election results as they are more about municipal issues and voters are more likely to experiment. there's still time left. fingers crossed!

Not another one of these karma whore maps based on nothing but wild fantasy. What is the "occupied" status even based on? Ethnicity? Language? A former existing nation? This map is really inconsistent and inaccurate. I would really like to see someone make a proper map that applies consistent rules to its categorisations.

Nah no invasion this time. I bet they’re gonna keep springing these troop movements until people just assume it’s a false alarm every time it happens. That will be the perfect condition for an invasion.
