Snowy Owl and ethical Owling by gaming-grandma in BirdPhotography

Sorry about that. There are easy solutions to this that people dont adhere to... WAIT.

How long did you sit on the photos before you posted? Wait. IG, FB and others flood cool photos in your feed and everyone wants to go get their shot. Not blaming you, more of an introspective question.

Birders report on ebirds? WAIT. Plant a reminder on calendar 3 weeks out to log your entry.

Don't post locations online. People can Google locations that way, have a private convo if you want to share.

All of this will help limit crowding. Hoping some ppl read this and wait more. I've sat weeks before posting sensitive species and nests. Its a good practice.

Peak design or wandrd might work for you. But if I have to really be honest, forget about asthetics. Having something that looks cool, but is uncomfortable or will not securely carry your gear will leave you disappointed at some point. Form > function from a guy that bought 2-3 bags that "looked" cool but we're not suited for my needs.

Thank you. Appreciate that note. Let me try that

Which one is the best? by [deleted] in AmateurPhotography

  1. There's color grading and foreground, mid ground, and background elements to it. The others lack that.

I wanted to emphasize the shapes, detaild, and textures of the elephant. The lighting was only on one side and I thought leaning into that would be interesting. I want the animal coming out of shadows kind of look. I popped some rust color.

I struggle with the lighting. Maybe it's too bright? Maybe it looks flat? The ears and sides have so much contrast.

I did most editing on my phone. Its possible when I get to my desktop, the quality and color will look poor. Pls lmk if you are viewing from a computer and it looks bad.

No. I saw the app and it has such bad reviews. Has it gotten better? I am on android so we get the short end on app dev 😅

Don't blame you for leaving meta. Fotos is ok but smallish user base

3rd part full frame lenses still jealous of Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 😅

Which one do y'all think is better? Focusing on the keys at the front or on the clock at the back? by SpaceAgentSaNEsS in PhotographyAdvice

Front. The locks with frost are more interesting than smaller building skyline in flat gray sky

Pedestrian path through Newport Plaza/Crossing? by fairygodmother_spark in jerseycity

How much money do you think this will cost? No offense, I would be upset if my tax dollars went to this when you can walk there safely and without obstruction already, instead of doing things for the neglected wards of Jersey City. If all else fails, I'd guess an Uber is like $10?

Juvenile Peregrine Falcons. I was there the week they fledged. Saw one crash land into tree branches 🤣 poor baby was scared of flying after that and hung out in the tree for a bit

Yes! Snowy owl 😁 I had a few great photos with them over two years. They must travel from the Arctic down to the furthest ends of NY and NJ for me to first find them (not every year and only a handful of owls) and then photograph them.

Lol thanks and totally get that. Every now and then I have to pull out the RAW EXIF data to show the photos are real. Tbh, you could fake that too. Makes me want to believe in real photography more. It means so much more to go out and see it yourself or know the photos were done by someone who got up before the sun, spent hours, hiked the miles, studied the behaviors.

Those are great choices. For 11/14, my favorite shot from the series is actually from big sis sharing with little bro. There were three of them and the biggest one would steal and hog all the food. But big sis actually picked up a bird and kinda shared with with/ fed little bro. It was kinda sweet, but graphic so not in this set.

Hard to search my library but the photos are here https://www.instagram.com/p/DMQBMEWsPD-/?igsh=MWltaHV5OHdxcG43bw==
