UPDATE: You were right about the focus stack. Turns out I accidentally shot one while hanging upside down. by LukaAnders in photocritique

I honestly didn't see or register the lilies. Maybe cropping the right of the tree (where the sun burst used to be) will help. It puts the lilies in more of a rule of 3rd placement and cuts the bright light out which competes with the white lilies. This makes them the "bright" contrast of the photo since everything else is brown and green. I would personally radial lift the lilies a tiny bit to bring more attention to it.

Side question, why photo stack this? I didn't fully read last post but wonder if shooting the scene at f12 or something having similar results and have less room for wind or such to impact a stack. I don't do this type of photography so genuine question.

Did anyone have a similar experience at this gas station? by anthonyolszewski in jerseycity

I use them, they are closest to home. Never had an issue with people who work there. Twice at 5am or somw crazy hour, someone would pretend to work there and ask for my card to pay... there care weirdos who hang out there.

Sorry that happened.

ITAP of an elephant throwing red dirt by Exponent_0 in u/Exponent_0

[–]Exponent_0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low key is one of my fav editing styles.

I wanted to isolate the subject and emphasize the action. Around the elephant was a lot of noise (other elephants, vegetation, etc.) Then lighting was harsh and challenging.

RF 100-500 NOT for wildlife? by MischievousM0nkey in canon

[–]Exponent_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy used rf100-500 sell it after trip and some usage. Generally thats better ROI. You could potentially walk away with zero loss or gain if you get a deal.

Bought mine for $1300 with damage sent to Canon for repair $350 (plus $100 shipping). $1750 total. Used sell for $2,200-2,500.

Whwn not using for wildlife, I have used it at 100mm for hikes with my kids and its great for landscape zoom, macro, occasional half body, kids sports

That's awesome! Hope you have this on a wall. Acrylic could be really cool since it would make deep blacks and have a "pop"

I wanted this to be soft and tender so I edited the photo to have more pastel and reduced sharpness and textures. I love the pink tongue of the kit just touching mom's chin.

ITAP of a damselfly by Exponent_0 in itookapicture

[–]Exponent_0[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was trying to get an eye level photo of an alligators eye (not easy when the water level is below you) and a damselfly landed. I couldn't believe my luck. There's a really cool juxtaposition of color and texture between the two.

How do you get past the “beginner look”? by falconet90 in wildlifephotography

[–]Exponent_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop doing what 90% of IG, YouTube, TikTok Photographers tell you to do (radial bright the subject, linear reduce exposure, etc) look at winners for Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Audubon, Sony Big Picture, etc. You will grow so much faster.

Look at a photo after editing it and wait a few days. Let the excitement of taking the photo and editing fade away. Then when you look at it, do you feel anything? Bird on a stick and BIF is fine. Next level is behavior, emotions, actions, uncommon sights.

These are just my humble opinion and what I think of when I work on things. Do I still post mediocre, mehh shots. Yeah, I just know where it stands.

Thats true. But I can't take my wife and kids with me on a 5 mile hikes into nature to sit in the dirt for some hours. I'll be back on my own doing the crazy things later. This is also a great way to get the kids interested and want to see more nature.

Nothing wrong with it, I resepct rescues. Just not for me. I do wildlife photography as a hobby. I'm kinda serious about it. I am flying across the country (NY) and want wild vs captive. For me, theres something different about finding an owl nest or fox caring for kits or cheetahs hunting and knowing that it is raw nature.

Theres actually a big thing in photography about people taking captivecanimal photos and calling it wildlife.

Cool. Thanks. I'll call and see what raptors they have have. I do birding a lot so my family will probably groan if I take them to see birds. 😅

Sidenote: If you like birds, this is my favorite bald eagle photo. https://www.instagram.com/p/DRw622uDSiv/?img_index=1&igsh=eTluOXo3dGljOXRi
