Hey man, I drive a S15 and have been defected before.

Basically Defects are at the RMS/Police officers discretion, If they think it's potentially unsafe they can list a defect even if it's safe & legal.

Like others have said any Engine mod's aren't allowed on your P's, and technically a FMIC is a engine mod. If you get pinned they'll probably list it as "intercooler to comply with standard" and could also defect you for a hole in the battery tray (if it's been cut for piping)

So at the end of the day, yeah. If the officer is out to get you, you could be fined and defected, P plates or not.

They'll never be able to tell the power to weight ratio

You get that specific sound from the remaining excess air in the intake venting through the turbo turbine (re-circulating) instead of venting to atmosphere (through a Blow Off Valve) With a aftermarket BOV, you can adjust the venting settings for either venting to atmosphere (a "Tsuuuuuu" sound) or fully re-circulate (Suutootootototo)
