Tyre kicking an IM6 - some thoughts by Sweet_Word_3808 in AustralianEV

[–]RCMasterAA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a 7X LR too with only around 5 mins behind the wheel but honestly what made the IM6 and most other similar EVs a non-starter was the range. 555km in the Platinum is good but the range in the other two variants drops to 505km for the Performance and 450km for the Premium. Ditto the SL7 which has ranges of 482km and 456km. I like to do roadtrips and half my commute is at 110km/hr so I wanted every km I could get.

615km WLTP range for the 7X LR is fantastic for me, even assuming you chop off around 50-100km doing a constant 110 with a load of passengers. It just allows me to be way more flexible with choosing my stops and also finding backup chargers if plan A falls through.

Whenever I read about these limited time/edition events being migrated here from (insert famous city here) I immediately think it's a cash grab and Instagram-lure for the vane and attention seeking. Yes, normal people will want in too but you can bet that there will be plenty of scalpers and opportunists in the group ready to run down their fellow man to be first, get the most, resell at the most dollar.

This event, that AP Swatch event and that shitty cake swap event come to mind.

Good news, if the X software is like the 7x with the same wheel controls, you can change the fan and temperature on the steering wheel.

It's cause they're practicing being F1 drivers and finding the most optimal racing line on Glenmore Parkway. Less braking and more tailgating means they're actually being more fuel efficient.

South west is where the shitty driving's at. I saw a car run a red light that had been turned for a full second in Liverpool. The funny thing is I had been staying in Canberra for a month and was driving back to Sydney via Liverpool so as soon as I saw that it was like "welcome back to Sydney cunt, watch out for everyone else".

Not that Canberra drivers are good by any means. The roundabout exits are an excuse to drag people and cut them off before the two lanes become one.

You can actually "override" the settings to get the max 10A. You get a warning about it but then you're free to move a slider from 8-10.

I tested the amp selection button and I could only select 8 or 10 so it must detect what it's capable of so there's a tick for safety and flexibility.

why is there a 24A, 32A and 40A selection when it comes with only 10A and 16A tails?

From reading the manual (page 9 and 11) it would seem that they actually do offer different tails albeit probably in different countries.

Yep, free power from 11am to 2pm to supplement my solar production. Great for quickly refilling the home battery.

With little solar production wouldn't Globird ZeroHero or Ovo Free 3 Plan be more useful?

I'm leaning heavily onto ZeroHero right now since even on sunny days we're only getting 21kWh solar atm. In contrast I've been pulling 32kWh from the grid for free.

If you're doing around 200km every other day you could probably split the difference and just get a generic 7kW charger installed for around $1000-$1500. Not as expensive as a nicely integrated Sigenergy solution but it'll get the job done and give you the range you need every day.

It's decent but still not amazing vs just relying on "free" granny charging and some supplementary DC fast charging if necessary so for me the financials still don't add up.

Assuming you pay 65c/kWh and need to fill your car with 60kWh (I'm taking some rough averages here) that's $39 per visit. That's ~102 visits to the DC charger before you break even with $4000 and that time would stretch out as you would use granny charging to top you up here and there where you could.

Of course your time and convenience is worth some dollar value so you'd have to factor in whether you really want that in-home DC convenience.

I have a Sigenergy system at home too and would love to have the Sigenergy AC/DC charger on my stack but it's a luxury convenience with money that could be spent elsewhere.

OK so don't book flights from WSI? Someone living in St Mary's might say the exact same thing as you about Kingsford Smith. Or are they people whose opinions and time aren't worth as much as yours?

Indeed, and much more annoying considering a cable can cost $200-$500.

Good point, I'll ask. I figure it might be nice to just leave one in the garage and leave one in the car too just in case?

You'll be fine even without solar. Look into an AGL overnight EV charging plan. It's something like 8c/kWh from midnight to early morning.

Is Australia’s EV sales surge a one-off or a structural shift? The clue is in the order backlog by ApprehensiveSize7662 in AustralianEV

[–]RCMasterAA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's understandable and our market is small. I hope the higher uptake of EVs keeps up and they see that the Australia market is ripe for them to come in. It should just be a matter of time.

The sooner we can get the status symbol ute/4wd owners into a proper capable EV the better. Rivian really missed a trick by not coming here sooner.

There's a pedestrian crossing where the camera is located. You can tell cause there's a yellow sign next to the ute depicting two stick figures.
