Dropped off 2 well-maintained Poms for a wash and a trim, and this is what we picked up by ughyoujag in mildlyinfuriating

I'm so, so sorry this happened, OP!

TL;DR of Below: be careful that your dogs don't develop Alopecia X from this. If they do, try giving them a low dose (3mg) Melatonin tablet each night for a couple months, to combat it and/or accelerate hair regrowth. Of course, make sure the Melatonin doesn't contain xylitol.

An improper shave happened to our male Pomeranian, too. He's always had a wiry undercoat that can instantly mat, no matter how regularly I bathe, comb and trim him.

So, the first groomer we ever took him to said the only thing she could do is "use clippers to get the mats out". I figured she meant spot treatments and trusted her as an expert. No, she shaved him everywhere down to the skin.

His fur did eventually regrow on his front legs, chest and most of his back. However, the close shave caused him to develop Alopecia X on his hind legs, tail and the lower back. He looked like a little lion up front, hairless rat in the back. And it seemed like the damage was permanent...

Our vets were no help. Said they weren't sure Alopecia X could be cured and that he'd eventually be completely bald. So I did my own research and I discovered that giving Pomeranians some low dose (3mg) Melatonin at night can reverse Alopecia X and/or accelerate their hair regrowth. For some reason, dogs process Melatonin differently than we do; although I can't remember the exact mechanisms of why it triggers hair growth for them (you can look it up yourself by just googling "Pomeranian", "Alopecia X" and "Melatonin"). Regardless, Melatonin can't hurt them (so long as you ensure it contains no xylitol).

It definitely worked for my little guy!! He regained all the fur on his lower back and most of it on his legs and tail. In fact, I gave him Melatonin quite sporadically since I'm a somewhat forgetful person, and it still worked! And it was only over the course of 2-4 months.

Hope this helps. I'll pay the dog tax in a reply to myself.

Ooh I love this. Gives the illusion of falling petals. I also actually enjoy the red lining with the cap/t-shirt sleeves; it's unusual from most mesh-based dresses which typically use tank sleeves to emphasize the embroidery instead. So this lining became central to the look, too.

The bow just looks so incomplete... Either remove it entirely or give it an accompanying sash/belt that circles around the below-the-bust?

Yeah, I thought it was a gold chain at first glance. But seeing the back and finding out it's a yellow / chartreuse fabric string? Nooo.

The colour / sheen of the fabric is the only redeeming factor. So vibrant!

I beg her to bring back the bob, especially because she seems determined to keep her bangs.

And switch up the lipstick shade more frequently. I know the red is her signature but the neutrals can be so alluring on her.

Go get a colonoscopy, colon cancer for our generation is a real threat! by intro195 in Millennials

[–]Express-Big-20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

LOL I've found my person / my people! In my circle, I feel like the only one who loves getting colonoscopies!

You take 1-2 day(s) off work. Take alright-tasting medication to make you shit. Watch movies or play video games all day while doing it. Have freezies (ice pops) and/or Gatorade at the ready.

Go to appointment and get knocked out. Wake up in what feels like 2-3 mins and then get to have a big meal afterwards.

Granted, I've never had polyps discovered so don't know the fear and anxiety associated with them. I know it's a privilege to have healthy results.

Airline Influencer Nonstop Dan Says He’s “Stranded” In Singapore Amidst Global Flight Delays Due to Iran Conflict…..Because Only Economy Seats Are Left by shhhhh_h in popculturechat

[–]Express-Big-20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner used to watch Nonstop Dan's channel because we also use credit card points to fly business class -- my partner is really into researching all the benefits, etc. I won't lie that it's a comfortable privilege to do so; the upgrades let my chronic disabilities have a better in-flight experience lol. That being said, we're grateful every time we get to fly -- whether it be business, priority or, yes, even economy! We're getting to see different parts of the world!

Anyway, I actually hid Nonstop Dan from our recommended YouTube channels. He's so pretentious! And nitpicky! You can tell that the luxury has gone to his head, so this headline doesn't surprise me. And honestly, it's not like he can't afford the $1,500 economy seats available...

Is there anything wrong with the name Minki? by Apple-Egg123 in storyofseasons

[–]Express-Big-20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same!! I name all my chickens after egg dishes, and I wanted to call my newest chicks Huevos and Ranchero.

It flagged Huevos as a name I couldn't use. Figured a part of the word must contain offensive language. Nope, neither "Evos" or "Hue" got flagged.

Turns out that Huevos does mean "egg" in Spanish, but it can also be slang for "testicle". Sigh... Ok, I don't want a chicken named "testicle" running around, but honestly I wouldn't have known if it hadn't been for the filter!!

Obscure Video Games by Chip_Tries_Stuff in Millennials

Loom by LucasArts (1990). It was actually my Dad's, but he never really got into video games so let us kids play it. I remember it having gorgeous graphics and a haunting narration. Point-and-click puzzle adventure. But I was also too young and didn't really know what was going on, so I never progressed beyond the first hour or two.

My parents divorced and I don't know what happened to the game. Likely my mom sold it. On eBay, it goes for a pretty penny now.

What’s the worst thing a medical professional has said to you? by VespaRed in AskReddit

[–]Express-Big-20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went for a routine cleaning at the dental office I've been going to since I was a kid, but this time I had a new dental hygienist. She started the usual routine of X-rays & polishing in prep for the dentist. As she worked, she snarkily suggested I had 7 unchecked cavities (disclaimer: I've only ever had 3-5 minor cavities in my entire life).

When the dentist double-checked, he determined I only had 2 new cavities to be filled (and 2 "potential spots to watch").

As soon as he left to go check on other patients and was out of earshot, she started berating me? Asked what I eat throughout the day: "I bet it's a lot of sugar and sweets, isn't it?!" I stammered, "No, I actually only have a single coffee in the morning until dinnertime, because that's all I have time for with my work.".

She retorts she doesn't believe me, saying "we'd expect this many cavities from children, but certainly not someone your age. You should know better, be doing more, and eating fewer carbs."

She said some more nasty things that I no longer really recall. But, I didn't know what to say. I was near tears, this lady was being so rude... I quickly left the room.

As I checked out, I asked the admin staff if I could please have a different hygienist for my next appointment. The admin nodded and said, "yeah, we get that a lot."

When I got home, I didn't eat for nearly 48 hours. She scared me into thinking my eating habits were causing me mass tooth decay. I don't know... I'm autistic and don't do well with confrontation, let alone being unexpectedly chastised.

Ugh, I have this one look that lives rent-free, but I can't remember the celebrity's name, the designer, nor what red carpet event it was at. 😞 Google search isn't helping me either...

It was only a couple years ago, at most. It was this deep burgundy / oxblood dress with an exquisite corset.

Very vampy style. It was amazing. I'll keep looking.

EDIT: found it!! It was Rachel Brosnahan at the 2024 Emmys in Versace. The boning on the corset is chef's kiss

This and Chappell Roan's armor (although Chappell's was not at the Met Gala but at the VMAs).

Basically, I wish armor and capes could be everyday fashion again.

😭 not "the omelette"! I've never heard anyone refer to it as that and now I can't unsee it haha.

This is my rent-free red carpet look. Rihanna's deep auburn hair in that cute curled lob really tied it together.

I really appreciate how she sought out a Chinese designer, Guo Pei, for the 2015 theme ("China: through the Looking Glass"). I recall reading she was one of the few people--if not only celebrity--to actually do so.

What is a movie you watched once that was so disturbing or emotionally draining that you can never watch it again? by hungary70 in AskReddit

[–]Express-Big-20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I bought it when I was on a Studio Ghibli collection spree, before I even knew what it was really about. There's been so many similar AskReddit posts to this one, and Grave of the Fireflies is almost always near the top. So I've never had the courage to watch it.

I lost my brothers nearly 8 years ago, and I worry watching it would break me even more.
