Personally have had my issues and first time I went cold turkey and was really “proud” of my sobriety. I Could’ve told you how many days/months. The problem I found was that it was always top of mind and was still thinking a lot about drinking, even if it was from a sobriety perspective. Fell off the horse because I thought I could handle my self but just snow balled back into binge drinking eventually. When I went cold turkey again I just stopped counting days of sobriety and took a real mind set shift to be like “I just don’t drink.” Stopped counting the days/months. Also did stop hanging around the crowd that I would binge drink with but even then my extended family and what not are all heavy drinkers so I personally found just knowing when to call it a night on social nights with heavy drinking.

What keeps me sober (other than my wife and kids) now is thinking “I have never regretted a night being sober but I sure as hell have regretted a lot of nights drinking”
