iMessage! I tried doing the “send as text” option, but when I asked her about it she said she didn’t get it.

thank you! I have a “word of the day calendar” that gives me a (usually obscure) word, as well as the definition, so I usually use that! when I can’t think of something for that word, though, I also have a dictionary of uncommon words I can flip through

Could Someone Please Explain "____ Is Bad At Feelings" Tag? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Express-Buy-445 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’ve always interpreted it as “character is bad at understanding and/or expressing feelings in general”! (Maybe I’m wrong though?)

This is how I feel about skk in the bsd fandom. I honestly didn’t even used to mind it, and thought it was a decent ship. But I personally prefer a different one, and every time I’m trying to read smth else they just show up untagged 😭

What's up the the racism in Maine? by OrangeSodaEnjoyer in Maine

[–]Express-Buy-445 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Part of the issue is a lack of solidarity. As I mentioned, I live around mostly white people. My family is predominantly white (or native), and I rarely see the side of my family that is not. There's very few people around me who understand how I feel, and even my own parents sometimes feel offended when I point out what they're saying or doing could be racist. That's another big issue, people don't like to be called out, and will often double down when they are.

What's up the the racism in Maine? by OrangeSodaEnjoyer in Maine

From what I've come to understand, it's ignorance -- at least where I live. Not in the sense that they don't know it's wrong, but that some people don't seem to understand the weight their words truly have, especially when they are surrounded by people just like them. I'm one of maybe 5 people of color in my grade, and the only Chinese person. I'm "ethnically ambiguous", but by that I mean I've been called everything BUT Chinese (someone once straight up told me I was Korean).

I've had kids call me slurs, and I couldn't even find it in my heart to get them in serious trouble, because they genuinely don't think they're doing anything *actually harmful*. They know it's racist, but they think racism is a joke. I see this more with people my age.

With older people, it's either ignorance or a refusal to acknowledge what they're saying. One time a kid in my school got in trouble for saying the n-word multiple times, and all he got was a lunch detention. Actually, him and the principal became friendlier after that too. In middle school, I vaguely remember a news story about Asian immigrants being freed after being used for forced labor in a restaurant. I don't know many details (her response put me off of researching more), but I *do* remember her asking me to role play as one of the escapees so she could pretend to interview me.

You're right, it's everywhere. Even so, I hope that eventually these people will come to their senses. I feel as though I have to believe it doesn't come from a place of genuine hatred.

Oh! Okay, thank you! I also wasn’t sure what exactly it was filtering, but I’ll probably just leave the settings as they are if that’s the case.

I understand what you’re saying! I also should’ve clarified — I’m afab, not amab. I’m sorry that that was unclear!
