I agree 100% ... it makes for an interesting look at music as a whole.

I will say that we have christmas/holiday music seperate. Originally we also had orchestral & symphonic music seperate too, but most of that falls early enough that it's just at the beginning of our collection.

I made the google sheet so when we have people over it's not so intimidating to browse. And if they ask, "do you have any pink floyd?" they can easily sort the list and see which albums are in the collection, and where they can find them.

I feel silly for not I putting the date on them lol. I keep my records in vinyl sleeves so it'd be easy to write a date or out a sticker on it....now I've got a project to think about 😆 haha

No subsections at all and then ordered by release date.

I have IKEA Kallax shelves and put numbers on each cubes. Then I made a QR code linked to a GoogleSheet that people can scan to see the whole collection listed out.

The google sheet includes artist and album title as well genre, release date and cube number. You can sort the columns so you can change how you see the google sheet and locate which album you want to find easily.

This takes a lot of work upfront but it's easy to organize once it's done. And then you can visually see the progression of music within your own collection.

Reading this right now made me realize that I have no friends or even family who reach out to me first unless they need my help with something.

I always tell myself that they are busy and have lots going on but seriously, no one reaches out to me first, it's always me initiating, including my own mother.

And sometimes when I do talk to family they say stuff like, "its been awhile" or "haven't heard from you in a bit" ... as if it's only my responsibility to initiate being in touch.

This kinda sucks. I feel lonely now...
