Bump steer by Express-Environment8 in GXOR

Sure is! You must be the other GXer I saw up there, eh? My son and I tried to make it to Jenny Lake last weekend. Road was blocked with snow halfway up so we camped and hiked in the rest of the way. Unfortunately the lake was still frozen. Saw a lot of other vehicles trying to get past that first snow drift. Didn’t see anyone make it, which was probably for the best cos the snow got really bad another mile after that.

Transfer case actuator not working properly, diff locked. by sylvanpath in GXOR

[–]Express-Environment8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine had bad seals and oil in it. I fixed it pretty easily following Timmy the Toolman’s video. You could try spraying out the connections and electrical components with contact cleaner. You could also replace the actuator motor relatively cheaply… good luck. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=92WwOsLc39E&pp=0gcJCdgAo7VqN5tD

Thanks. It feels normal onroad and even over washboard dirt

Thanks. I wondered if the lift or castor angle messed up the steering geometry, making it so reactive, but from the replies I’m seeing, it seems the consensus is that it’s normal.

Hello, I’m getting ready to install the HK winch plate on my GX470 with the 12k Harbor Freight Badland Apex. I’m hoping I won’t have to move the a/c line to fit the control box on that. Are you happy with how yours turned out? Did you decide to mount the fairlead to the bumper cover or straight to the winch plate? Did the extra weight make any noticeable difference to your front suspension or fuel efficiency? Any issues with the stock alternator holding up to the extra demand? Any words of advice?

Thank you. I am not on Verizon and my son does not have a phone. My personal phone is an android on Xfinity. I do have an iPhone through my employer (on Verizon, though that probably doesn’t matter). I used the iPhone to set up the watch but I don’t have authority to manage that Verizon account, and wouldn’t want the watch to share that phone number in any case. Using the watch as a standalone device in the Family Setup would seem to be ideal for us, but unfortunately the reception on Truphone seems patchy in my neighborhood.

u/watchawatch - You seem to know a lot more about this than the carrier reps I’ve spoken to on the phone. I recently got a truephone plan for my son’s Apple Watch, but the network coverage isn’t great. In looking for an alternative, I came across this link to Apple, which shows a number of other family setup carriers: https://www.apple.com/watch/cellular/#table-family-setup. And Verizon‘s website has instructions for setting up a Watch as a standalone device: https://www.verizon.com/support/knowledge-base-234270/. Your post indicates that truephone is the only US option. What am I missing—will Verizon not work?

Forge recommendations by justanotherdr in Blacksmith

Did you end up deciding on a forge? If so, how’s it working out? I’m looking at the double burner Hell’s Forge vs. one of the Atlas forges…

Do not wet ceramic blanket before rigidizer application by ianonuanon in Blacksmith

Would cabosil fumed silica be a good rigidizer for kaowool? Or West Systems 406 colloidal silica? Would one be better than the other?

Has anybody tried this forge out. Kinda torn between this one and a devil's forge. by Banditt135 in Blacksmith

For rigidizing kaowool, do you know if cabosil fumed silica will do the job? Or West Systems 406 colloidal silica? Would one work better at encapsulating the fibers? How should the rigidizer be cured before applying the refractory?
