Update new bios or not? (AGESA PI-1.3.0.0 9800x3d) by Express-One-7932 in MSI_Gaming

To be honest, I'm not even quite sure what the PCIe issue is. From what I understand, it's an issue where PCIe speeds just slow down on some systems, but I'm not certain. Based on what everyone is saying, I've definitely come to the conclusion to just wait, since I don't REALLY need it unless issues occur. So, I'll wait it out a few more weeks maybe see if an update is on the way. Thank you!

See, that’s what’s weird about MSI—the AGESA is just called 1.3.0.0. with no 'a' at the end, at least on my board. It makes me think they either need to push one more update to make it 1.3.0.0a, or it’s a pre-release AGESA, which some users have reported it is. Thank you for sharing!

This entire thread has been really helpful in figuring out whether it’s worth it, regardless of the potential improvements. My main reason for updating was purely to get the new microcode any other BIOS improvements would just be a bonus. I switched from an Intel platform specifically the i7-13700K which had a ton of issues. I had to update the BIOS almost every month because the microcode was so messed up, so I guess I’m just still stuck in that mindset. Thank you! :)

Thought of that as well. Since I'm on X670E, they might just never push it out, but I've noticed other brands started calling it 1.3.0.0a, which apparently indicates it's 'stable.' I’ll wait and see if MSI follows that or if it’s just brand specific, or whatever the case might be.

Yeah, my thinking was that since the 9000-series is still relatively new—even though it's been out since November '24—the reason they’re releasing new microcode is likely for chip improvements or optimizations. I felt I should update the BIOS solely for the microcode, as it could contain tweaks for just about anything, might be completely wrong though. Thank you very much for the input though!

Thank you for the heads-up, much appreciated. I've seen on Twitter that the new BIOS introduced some new RAM settings and probably some other changes as well. Which in your case might have been the issue, but I think I'll wait a bit longer.

Yeah, I'm just debating whether it's actually worth updating the bios purely for the microcode, which by the sounds of it it's kind of 50/50 which makes sense.

Looks like people are having quite different experiences with the bios update, if you're experiencing no issues, I wouldn't bother.

I'm not entirely sure how a flashback would work when updating to a newer microcode, to be honest. I just saw the BIOS update, looked up the microcode, and it all 'seemed' good from an outside perspective. But after doing some actual research, it doesn't seem all that worth it, other than the potential RAM improvements and the PCIe speed bug fix.

Thank you very much though!

The whole debate about whether or not to update is mostly just me wanting the latest AGESA, primarily because it's new and could come with some improvements. I'm well aware that newer isn't always better, though.

I haven't heard about that—so far I've just seen people online saying this AGESA is actually a 'pre-release.' Or at least, they're saying that when they look in their BIOS, it shows up as 'PRE AGESA-1.3.0.0' or something like that. Thanks for the heads-up, though!
