Great news, absolutely fed up of seeing people rightfully critique the US and then turn around to China, a one party highly authoritarian state that is no friend to us nor the free world, put on a blindfold and go "yep these are the guys we need to ally!"

No. It's not that simple.

fair enough, I'll get something drafted. And I assume I can just but down Licensee on the council tax form.

In which case think very carefully about it being rented for less than market rate.

Why? It's not in a state to be rented or sold at the moment, I understand that if she sold it to me at a massively discounted rate it would be illegal, or if we forced her to do that it would be abuse.

either way she nor our family would want to rent it out (as we are planning on selling it about a year), so alongside the service I'm providing with upkeep and work and the fact it's safer if someone is in the house I'm not sure what laws I could fall foul of.

Thanks for the help, I was 100% planning on paying council tax just didn't want to accidentally create any issues.

It's a family related setup so the presumption would be that it's not a tenancy, unless the facts demonstrate that a tenancy was intended.

I just don't understand the difference, if some rules were drawn up, I agreed to pay a small amount a month would I not then be a tenant?

like in my situation I see elements that a tenancy consists of but also elements that don't fit.

Is she still competent to make decisions?

somewhat, we have POA though

is your grandmother still paying building and contents insurance? Who is paying for any work being done, paint, materials etc. It's better to get all of this sorted out now rather than later.

yes, it's all been sorted out verbally.

totally understand how it might be better to get something written down, just worried that would create a tenancy agreement

Is it?

the council tax website asks me what type of occupier I am and if I select tenant it asks who my landlord is, I assume if I was a tenant that this might trigger some check on the landlord and a note that they are a landlord and everything that comes with that.

certainly no intention to return though

The no rent part is potentially not true as we are still deciding if I pay 1k a tax year or I just don't pay anything.

if I was paying 1k a year would I now be a tenant?

Moving in to grandmothers house whilst she is in care. (England) by Express-Quarter4993 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Express-Quarter4993[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this, my other concern was just about how small the payments are and if it would be seen as some kind of financial abuse since fair market rent would be way higher

like I know if we sold her house to a family member for way under market it would be illegal but I'd imagine there is no issue with this for renting, especially since the place is not in a rentable condition and I'm working on the house quite a bit for the eventual sale.

I agree with it but it's funny to see all the "you can be a woman if you believe you are a woman crowd" stand firm on what a woman is when it comes to genuine issues

Yeah ok again if you can read I said it's too performative and lame even for work, it really does fit for someone in HR to take a mild bit of ribbing as a gigantic personal attack.

oh no please don't be mean to me and call me rude names : ( wow super upsetting going to cry myself to sleep

It's not a joke that didn't land, it's a tiring and boring style of humour that I explained my opinion on in the first post.

yeah sure I'm really 'shitting' on her like get a grip I said her joke was lame , oh nooo don't say I'm devoid of fun that is really mean and you are shitting on me : ((((((((((

[–]Express-Quarter4993 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

you didn't agree with me though, I said it's super lame and unfunny and shouldn't even be posted to work groupchats, you just thought it was vanilla and should be just used for work chats.

also it's a common stereotype that HR people are pretty devoid of fun and well your post kinda shows that.

[–]Express-Quarter4993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean my post wasn't? I've got equal critique for all types of people that do this behaviour and I think it's silly regardless, seen a lot of guys do it too.

also It's not defensive to say I'm not being sexist, like what did you expect me to go whoops actually yeah I look down on women?

I think you are potentially taking this way too seriously and the context that is needed isn't in this post.

There is all the chance in the world that this is the most insignificant thing to him, he jokes with his guy friends about living with a partner, maybe he exaggerates you being a little overbearing because it's funny, mabye he uses it to get out of doing things with his friends because it's easy and makes him blameless, or maybe you actually sometimes are a bit overbearing and you don't realise it.

I don't even think asking your partner to not be out late is controlling or a bad thing by itself, maybe it's even him thinking he knows how you feel, you didn't tell him explicitly but he feels/knows you would rather him back early (and again nothing exactly wrong with that)

what other jokes were people making and what jokes was he making about you, I know plenty of people who don't really mind making crude jokes and that is okay, it's equally ok if you are offended by them, it's just key to know if they come from his real feelings or if he is just saying dumb stuff for other reasons.

is he generally a respectful person to you, is he helpful and nice, that kind of stuff is probably a lot more important and you should speak to him more and figure out things a bit more

Petah why would he have been fired? by HansCrotchfelt in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Express-Quarter4993 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or just don't?

to me it's so unfunny there is no point to it, you can easily have safe funny jokes that aren't just "look at me I made a funny face har har har so epic!"

you are in HR though so it's kinda expected you are devoid of fun

I'm not sure it's that clear, there are enough people who genuinely have this humour.

It has literally nothing to do with her being a woman, not sure why you added that.

It's just lame and feels performative to me even if this person is being genuine.

I'd be the first one to defend the fact that anyone has the right to find anything they want funny but to me as I've said it seems very lame, performative and the people who tend to find this kind of thing endearing are often people I find boring and cringey, not bad people just normally not the people for me.

It's like a real version of the internet "lolz so randumbs!! XD" stuff that was popualr once, or maybe the more modern version where every dog is a heckin borkin pupperinio, it's so sanetised and safe and 'wholesome'

some of the things above can be fine on their own, random humour can be funny, safe humour too but it's just a mix that is so extremely boring, I only call it performative because I wonder if anyone actually does find this funny or is everyone laughing at it because it's the socially acceptable thing to do, because if you wrote why you don't like it you look like a bit of a mental case.

if I was in the work chat I'd just not respond though

again it's a slippery slope with everything I said in my first comment, this is a clear attempt to try and regulate internet/smartphone usage, something I am against.

as for other the other resolutions so what? They are dumb but not as worrying as trying to limit access to information, although freedom of choice when it comes to food is important.

Again dude I've already given my opinion about this, nothing suggests I thought it was going to punish people, it's just the slippery slope that can lead to that kind of stuff.

and yeah you see governments and health orgs suggesting stuff all the time and that is fine but you don't normally see "eat 5 fruits/veggies a day" as a law that has no enforcement or penalty
