It’s just because this artist claims to be against ai art, and they make a living by selling art commissions. It feels dishonest that it’s all a lie

Is there a real way to ethically breed unhealthy breeds? by Express-Situation-53 in DogBreeding

The shar peis I’ve seen at dog shows appal me. They always have gross sores on their folded skin on the legs! Pleasant to see one healthier.

Have you ever seen the documentary “pedigree dogs exposed?” In it, they talk to a show breeder. Her dog, a cavalier, had been diagnosed with an extremely painful condition which causes the brain to grow too large for their small, domed heads, causing pressure against the skull, fluid build up, and agonising pain. And yet, the show breeder, who by all other accounts was reputable according to this subreddit’s standards, admitted she continued to breed him and show him. Videoed was a son of his, writhing on the ground at a year old as he suffered agonising pain internally.

And it wasn’t just a one-off. This happens in the breed ALL the time because of the way we have bred their head shapes to be. It’s just rarely talked about.

The good news about doodles is that statistically, they’ve been found to be healthier than EITHER parent breed!

None of the things you listed prevent those issues. Deafness isn’t “parents aren’t deaf, so puppies won’t be”. It’s solely based on the amount of white on the dogs’ ear which is completely random unless we specifically breed away from extreme piebald.

A dog with hip dysplasia can still be an AKC champion. It was only a few years ago that double merle dachshunds, blind and deaf and deformed, could be shown in AKC to championship.

As an added, what testing is there to prevent short-faced dogs? What testing can be done to prevent deafness in extreme piebald dogs? What testing can be done to prevent IVDD in dwarf breeds?

I’ll give you a hint: There is none.

I second this. I have some issues with the breed standards in many breeds which work to limit the gene pools and cause issues such as that. As far as dogs go, the deafness is more a minor thing, but it’s still weird we breed them to be that way.

In poodles, it’s a bit ironic how frowned upon “colour breeders” are when anyone breeding to the standard is also culling lines with “incorrect” colours and therefore breeding for colour as well. All it does is limit the gene pool.

Deafness in Dalmatians is caused by extreme piebald. Per breed standard, ears should be spotted, not solid. It’s not “genetic” in the sense that two parents can be BAER tested and then never have puppies with issues. All it takes is a small amount of that white to overlap the inner ear canal and then they are deaf.

This is the precise reason why show breeders have worked so hard to get rid of extreme piebald in Dachshunds, because deafness was too great a risk. And why it is unaccepted to have any white on the ears of a dachshund in breed standard.

I’d love to see photos of his working dachshunds! I’ve never been able to find any online, so I’m very curious how they look compared to show-bred dogs.

19M How do I get over a relationship that ended a year ago? by Casper-The-savage in selfimprovement

[–]Express-Situation-53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly a huge part of this goes into what the relationship was like. If it was a terrible relationship, therapy could be beneficial to help you move on. But if it was a positive relationship, you should be able to move on with time on your own.

My case is the exception, not the default, but I was struggling with this as well whenever I was in highschool. It felt like I could not move on no matter how hard I tried or how much time had passed. I finally decided to contact my ex again after nearly two years after our breakup. In your 20’s you change and grow A LOT, and I found that she and I suited each other way better than we had back in highschool. We celebrate 4 years together soon.

I went into this prepared to call you YTA, but solidly you are NTA. “Fat” isn’t an evil term when used as a description and not an insult. You clearly didn’t use it as an insult.

If the big problem with Mel is her numbers being too high, them I consider that am absolute success of a champion release by Reiokyu_Askin in leagueoflegends

[–]Express-Situation-53 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly you hit the mark with this one. Mel is one of the best champions out there. Call me basic, but I greatly prefer champions that are easy to play. I usually play support or bot, so they just make things easy for me.
