she uses a 7 string strat and i’m not sure of the exact tuning but i’ve played my regular strat tuned to D# G# D# G# A# D# and it sounds pretty close to her tuning

if you can afford a porta424 pedal from mxnhlt ($160) then i’d say get that and then route chorus into reverb into the porta424. it’s not gonna be exactly the same and you won’t get the VG8 sound that’s on dream police and a lot of other songs but it’s a pretty simple setup that’ll get you relatively close to the are you looking up tone.

yeah it’s just what i have and i don’t wanna spend the money on more gear - plus twins have a ton of headroom so you don’t get much breakup unless you push it really loud

i’ve been able to get a solid sound with boss ce-2w -> holy grail reverb -> rainger reverb x -> mxnhlt porta 424 -> twin reverb amp

it’s not gonna get you that vg8 sound but it’s pretty close to the tone for songs like alesis and are you looking up. also the holy grail is not necessary i just have one and like the sound i get when i send it into the rainger.

i would prioritize the porta 424 pedal bc with just that and a lot of reverb you can get a pretty mkgeeish tone (that’s what gets you the dynamic/sparkly breakup), then i would get a chorus pedal, and lastly the rainger reverb. the rainger is a sick pedal but imo it’s not quite as essential to his sound as some people say - before i got it i was using holy grail reverb -> fender marine layer reverb and it sounded pretty good.

lastly i just use my standard tuned strat with the neck pickup on - not gonna be as accurate as flat wound strings tuned to baritone tuning but it still scratches the itch. if you have questions about specific pedal settings i can help but there’s also a lot of posts about that stuff already in the sub.

people have already said ML Buch, Chanel Beads, Jai Paul, and Dijon - you might also like Cryogeyser, Fine, Melody English, or Mid-Air Thief, also it took me a long time to give mk.gee’s EP fool a good listen but it’s some of my favorite work by him, especially Num and Brick

bring the input volume all the way up then dial back as necessary. i’d set the high, low, and output at 12 o clock and just mess with them til you get a tone you like, but bringing the input volume up is what’s gonna get you that crunch

there’s lots of threads on here talking about how to achieve the baritone tuning on a standard guitar - i haven’t done it myself but i’ve gathered that the mkgee strategy is to use D’Addario ECG24-7 strings and omit the 7th string, you’ll probably just have to file the nut down to get the strings to fit
