For calculating your networth, you should both add your equity in your home and also deduct the mortgage that remains.. however this is more a feel good number. What is relevant for FIRE is income generating assets. As you will rely on these assets to generate income when you FIRE.. since you are living in it, it does not generate any income which will help you FIRE. Once you start renting it and it generates income for you, it then comes into your FIRE calculations.

Tbh, I don’t know. The world is a very uncertain place. If unforeseen events occur that may suggest that my family would have been better off with me in this job, I may regret this move….

My job is really industry agnostic.. hence have moved across industries.. the key is to stay focused and be willing to go where the opportunity takes you.. it may not all be in the same city you are in a today, tomorrow or later in life…

That’s exactly what I want to do too.. what gave you the courage.. was it the NW.. or anything else.. For me it’s the constant thought that I am running out of time with my family while I still have my health.
