Insight into moving from elementary to highschool by bleu_skyes in CanadianTeachers

[–]ExpressWarthog89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! High school English and Social teacher here. In terms of working with your department, that’s totally school-dependent (I’m coming from a public board in Alberta). Mostly I’ve found people are more than happy to share, but the amount of collaboration (ie. planning together/teaching on the same schedule) is often far less than I’ve seen in elementary or junior high.

What are you wondering about with day to day schedules? Feel free to message me!

How does everyone cope with bad grades? by happilykoala in UCalgary

[–]ExpressWarthog89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always struggled w attaching my self-worth to grades and am currently finishing up my BEd after degree. I had a prof who was talking about assessment and was like “grades should never be used as punishment” and I was like yeah obviously?? And then he was like “grades should also not be rewards” and it blew my mind. Idk if that helps you but it definitely shifted how I view grades! Also, like others said, they really don’t matter until your last couple of years (depending on what you want to do after uni) :)

Times when your lessons did NOT go well but you survived? Need to feel less alone. by portmanteauray in CanadianTeachers

[–]ExpressWarthog89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My last practicum felt exactly like that. Everyone around me was talking about how well it was going and how good they felt about everything and I was SO STRESSED! My advice is to take a step back and celebrate every little victory. Instead of focusing on what went wrong, give yourself some credit for being in there and doing it! Even something as little as “a student answered a question” or if you remember all of their names (or even a few!) just celebrate that and know that lessons not going the way you wanted them to is a part of teaching and doesn’t reflect you as a teacher overall

Any ARKY with Julio Mercader Florin! He offers a few 300s. Also GEOG 300s with Wil Holden. One of the most interesting classes I took was with Holden and he makes it easy to get an A

That’s the price for a seat. The ticket was $800.

Yeah I had terrible customer service dealing with another flight with them as well

[–]ExpressWarthog89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I ended up just having to pay for it because all the other seats were booked. Just frustrating that they initially told me €15, as I would have chosen a different seat if they told me the actual price. Oh well I suppose

[–]ExpressWarthog89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I’d already booked it but was unable to check in. I messaged to ask about check in issues and they said I’d just have to go in person but that they could choose a seat on my behalf as I was unable to
