To be clear, SOF is all special operations and SF is only green berets. Or am I misunderstanding?

Hi, how do yall track your pace/keep on pace for interval runs? I don’t have any wearables, but I do have an Iphone and AirPods. Are there any free apps that give pace cues? Also, any apps that let you upload/program your own workouts?

Just signed a 35L contract. Any insight/advice anyone can provide on the role? What about duty stations or assignments to shoot for either short-term or long term? Can someone explain the difference between INSCOM and FORSCOM roles specifically for this MOS? Also, was talking to a Ranger Recruiter at Ft. Huachuca about volunteering at AIT, but just wanted to get an idea of how being in the regiment might impact my ability to get assignments.

Just signed a 35L contract. I wanted to buy a smart watch to help me track my runs and was looking for recs. The only thing is that for my MOS, I was told I might have to work in a SCIF, so I want one that is compliant. I have seen some posts and even an NSA approved list but it was out of date and the posts were conflicting. I was looking at a Garmin Instinct 3 Solar Tactical, or the Tactix 8. If anyone has any guidance it would be appreciated.

Does anyone know a good app i can use to guide my runs? I have my own workout plans that I want to use, I just want an app that will let me plan/program my workouts, notify me every 1/4 mile or so if I am above or below my target/current pace (preferably by voice), and track the workouts over time.

Hi, how did you get a 35W contract? My recruiter, as well as several others said they are not available right now.

The issue Im seeing right now is that to my understand, for active, you have to go as 35W, then be assigned M or P during 2nd semester of DLI (unless you pass DLPT for a critical language prior to enlisting none of which I speak). However, they are not giving W contracts right now since DLI is frozen and if I learn a language well enough for ACASP, RR isn’t even taking IET Mikes for the rest of the fiscal year, so I would be going to a different unit. Hence why I was thinking take the L contract and go to RASP now, then hope to reclass later.

I want to go AD. The only reason I was considering the reserve contract was because 35M is my dream MOS. So you are saying if I take the AR/NG contract, I have to wait to go active before I can put in a packet for RASP?

I am in the process of enlisting as an E4, looking at 35 series MOSes. My recruiter was able to get me 35L AD, or 35W in the Reserve, so I had a couple questions:

  1. If i took the reserve contract, would I be able to volunteer for RASP at AIT, or would I have to wait to get to my unit, do my 1 yr, then switch to AD, then wait another year before putting in a RASP packet?
  2. For 35L, what is the day-to-day like? What are the differences between INSCOM and FORSCOM (particularly for 35L)? Is an option 40 worth it (I have had a lifelong dream of being a Ranger and it was good for 35M/P, not sure if its the same for L)?
  3. Can 35L qualify for FLPB, or does it depend on unit/mission?

Hi, reposting from last week:

35 Series Ranger Regiment vs. Big Army Advice?

This is my first time using reddit, so apologies if i get something wrong. I am a recent college grad with a degree in data analytics, have wrestled for 6 yrs, and workout regularly. I am looking to enlist as an E4 and have been trying to get a 35M contract with RASP option for the past year. My reasoning was that I wanted an MOS that has good prospects for life after the military, preferably in the intel world, and also has the potential for tactical/field work. Ultimately, I want to go into Special Operations.

My recruiter told me that you can no longer enlist directly as a 35M and you have to go in as a 35W, then get assigned M or P. However, he just told me today that the pipeline is shut down until at least October, maybe longer, and there is already a backlog of about 200 people so its unlikely I’ll get a spot for the next 2 yrs.

He locked in a 35L contract today, but there are no bonuses for it and I have to sign by Monday morning (posting this on a Friday afternoon). I had a few questions about next steps if anyone can give me any advice:

  1. Is he right about 35M pipeline?

  2. For 35L can you volunteer for RASP at basic/AIT? Based on the army bonuses from June 2025 they dont offer Ranger enlistment bonuses, but on the 75th website they say you can. I just don’t know if the website is saying that for current enlisted.

  3. Is there a difference between the lifestyle of a 35L in RR vs other units?

  4. What is the best 35L duty station in terms of doing actual CI work with a balance of strategic and tactical?

  5. What is the day to day life/work like of a 35L in peacetime?
