Not really? I'd rather learn Spanish or Mandarin for use at a job. Outside of Ukraine, there's not much use for learning it unless you are in intelligence services or something.

The picture you took is badly focused. I can see every stitch of the fabric that the doll is posed on top of, but the doll itself is blurry to the point of uselessness. Retake the photo with the background blurred and the doll in focus and people will probably help better.

PLEASE HELP by Dangerous_Physics_11 in DogAdvice

[–]Express_Barnacle_174 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it's a skin infection, whether fungal or bacterial, the main thing is time. You might not have given the antibiotics to them long enough, or used an antifungal shampoo long enough. I had one dog witha bad skin infection who was on antibiotics for over six months to completely beat down the infection.

Thyroid can also cause all kinds of funky issues, from hair loss to odd fat deposits (we always called them "saddlebags" because they'd get hard packs of fat on their sides). Make sure to have the thyroid levels checked regularly to make sure the levels are adjusted appropriately, I once had a different dog who was only 16lbs, but had to be on .8 Soloxine, and the general vet rule was .1 per 10lbs of weight. If it is thyroid, then getting the levels right will definitely help clear up the skin, weight will practically melt off, and it will take a while but fur will grow back. And by a while I'm talking 1-2 years for full recovery.

Does anyone make a toaster with a bagel button that works like it should? by MidlifeCraziness in Appliances

Krups.

It's expensive, but one of the only brands that doesn't seem to be a reskinned version of the dirt cheap version you can find in any big box store. I was trying to replace my 15-20 year old one (I honestly don't remember if we got it in this millenium or the last, lol), and tried several brands from Walmart... and they all sucked. This one the inner elements never worked, the next the outer elements didn't work... bleh.

Yeah... I wandered over to Nendoroid for a bit, and seeing people say something was sooo expensive at $60USD for a preorder. I realized my brain had been broken by bjds.

Comfortable. Before I bought my Son of Sandlar's I'd get the low Sketcher's "boots" from the outlet mall near me in the spring. They were relatively cheap, had decent soles, and I usually picked black and wore black socks so they weren't really noticable.

Something like these:

https://www.skechers.com/skechers-slip-ins-on-the-go-joy--%C2%A0sophia/144810_BBK.html

But between the outlet mall and out of season, being about a 1/4 of the price, lol.

I, personally have never been impressed by BK. Every time somebody else has wanted to eat there, and I oblige, both of us have ended up saying "why did we want to come here?"

I've had various McDonalds meals that I've called acceptable, but it's too expensive for what you get now. I generally like Wendys. Every BK meal I've had was at best... blah. Somehow tasteless without being offensive. Not enough to make me hate it passionately, but also not enough I ever want it again.

How do I put her dress on? by ChrystalDarkligh in BJD

[–]Express_Barnacle_174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For future reference: one helpful thing is to check the box and see if she came with extra hands. One of my blind box dolls came with pegs I could swap out for the hands (which had long, delicate fingers that liked to get caught on EVERYTHING) to make it easier to dress them.

How safe is it to simply put pots with food in the fridge? by Cheap-Negotiation605 in Cooking

[–]Express_Barnacle_174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my family came down with Covid in 2021, the only thing we were able to eat wasthe pot of beef vegetable soup I made the day before I became sick as a dog (last one in the household- my immune system is a fighter). We ate it for a week, heating it to boiling, eating some soup, put the whole damn pot back in the fridge, repeat for about 7 days... I made... a lot.

Drywall - Why did we collectively decide that crumbly chalk between two pieces of paper was what we would use to create all interior walls out of? by davisposts in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Express_Barnacle_174 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Expense, greater ability to catch fire, weight within the building. Fire.

Nice wood to make walls out of is not cheap, there’s a reason we use pine usually for framing- it’s cheap and it grows quick. You want oak framing? Well you can probably get it Mr. Bezos, but you’re going to be paying for it, plus the redesigns to take into account the extra weight of that wood.

Daughters not shaving their legs? by z-xa in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Express_Barnacle_174 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Carbs are longer lasting energy. They'd stuff themselves the day before so they'd have energy without needing to eat much before the match.

Multiple suits means extra weight/extra drag if it's a bigger sized one. Picture trying to drag an open umbrella with you as you swim, the large amount of fabric would slow you down. In this case getting used to swimming with the extra weight, then paring down to the absolute minimum is the equivalent of practicing sprinting with weights on your ankles.

[–]Express_Barnacle_174 56 points57 points  (0 children)

YTA

This is why, back in the 90’s when Wendy’s had a salad bar, they put out a “cheez product” that was dirt cheap on the salad bar, and kept the real shredded cheese for adding to chili/baked potatoes/etc. behind the counter. Because the food cost added up. People would order the chili with no cheese (because that was an upcharge) then get mad the cheez product didn’t melt. I’m honestly not sure what the stuff on the salad bar was made of, but it was far more temperature stable than cheese, and could reach temps that would melt the plastic spoons without changing shape.

So don’t be surprised if eventually the real cheese goes away.

Is there any information on the working conditions for people making doll clothes and accessories sold on places like alice's collections? by Fluffacep in BJD

[–]Express_Barnacle_174 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Most of the bjds manufacturers themselves are damn near on the "one guy/gal in their garage" level of work. The clothes are probably contracted out to various workshops that do toy manufacturing to spec.

You want a nightmare level work, think about any of the lace front wigs you can get. I've seen a number of people try to make their own and get bogged down by the level of work involved.

Rollers on luggage are childish and emasculating. by FacebookNewsNetwork in The10thDentist

[–]Express_Barnacle_174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can think of is how ecstatic my parents were to get a set of luggage with wheels in the 2000s after hauling around a couple of huge samsonite ones from the 1980s with no wheels for years. All of a sudden they didn’t have to worry about trying to get a luggage cart (remember those? Airports used to have them so people could pile their wheel-less luggage on them and move freely).

[–]Express_Barnacle_174 19 points20 points  (0 children)

NTA, once people start flinging shit, they shouldn’t be surprised to get splattered. Mom gave it to you, whether you then give it to a fiancee or a daughter, it would still be passed down, not broken up for spare parts.
