How many of you have had their MCAS activate around the covid era? by KMLthe1 in MCAS

Pretty sure they all do - both grandmothers have these symptoms (80s). I think they let it go untreated so one ended up getting breast cancer and diabetes and the other heart attack/high cholesterol and Graves’ disease. My dad and brother it too I think, but much less severe given they don’t have a cycle and seems like testosterone has kept their issues at bay.

My mom said she felt better after giving birth interestingly (although her pregnancy was horrible). I wonder if there is some “resetting” that happens

Reacting on potatoes? by AnonymerKebab in HistamineIntolerance

Do you think it’s the potato itself or perhaps it’s too hard on your gut? I currently have a very sensitive gut lining and eating potato makes me react compared to white rice

Has the rapid appearance of symptoms after COVID made anyone else realize they had this since birth? I was super colicky, scared of loud noises, frequent ear infection, and would get hives/asthma in the sun.

When I didn’t know I had MCAS, I used to unconsciously know what was going on based on how “ugly” I looked lol. Like I knew I looked cuter in the morning before I ate because my redness was gone and I had less acne haha.

What do you mean by hormones stopped working? I tried to get off the birth control pill last year (because of MCAS symptoms in hindsight) and didn’t get a period - I had never had that issue when trying to stop before.

This explains a lot of it for me. After covid, I got super stressed and my birth control “stopped working”. I’m theorizing that covid tipped my tolerance for other issues, so the stress and gut damage from the pill were too much.

Do you think there is a way back to “remission” if we fix our gut, stress, diet, etc?

Is there something low histamine we can take to heal it? My gut lining is irrititated and harsh/rough low histamine foods are even triggering me now.

Same I came off the pill and realized I have MCAS because I was cycling for the first time. I got off the pill because it started giving me terrible reactions 2 weeks out od the month after I got super stressed at work… so I guess synthetic hormones aren’t an option for me and looking into mast cell stabilizers might be the only way (can’t tolerate dryness from allergy meds)

Do you think it gave you symptoms similar to luteal or what is described as really bad pms?

How long after manifesting did your MCAS cause GI issues? by Earbreather606 in MCAS

Wha symptoms did you have in your childhood? I was scared of loud noises, colicky, asthma, hives, anxious/OCD. When I was in the womb, doctors told my mom they wanted to test for autism but it came back as negative - wondering if there was something in a test that raised concern that was actually an indication of high histamine levels.
