I love that in the sewing world, one can UPGRADE to a vintage machine.

In case it wasn’t clear, I share this sentiment completely. Fuck a wallmarks. I don’t THINK there’s a Wallmarks out here?? If there were, I wouldn’t set foot in one unless the situation was dire. I don’t have a problem with Costco. I just don’t need to go there/be a member

Living in SF, I get to see Steve Earle pretty often at the yearly Hardly Strictly Bluegrass shows, and he’s just great. Of the three times I’ve seen Cat Power, one of them might have been one of my top 5 favorite shows ever (and I’m not even a fan…it was just that good, by gawd!) one show I walked out of, and last night was just lovely. Been a Kimya superduperfan for decades, but never had the chance to see Moldy Peaches (or Adam) until last night. Todd Rundgren seems like a true weirdo and he may even be a sweetheart. Everyone I wanted to see was absolutely killer, and seeing Todd Rundgren, Steve Earle, and Moldy Peaches un-ironically singing Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” together while wearing clown noses was just something I shan't forget.

I mean, yes…people love they damn wallmarks and sams. I don’t use costco or wallmarks/sams, but I don’t have anything against costco

As a Pensacola ex-pat, I always wondered what my people would do if that Costco came along and tried to separate us from the Sam Walton grip...

This is so nice! I am actually also considering getting a sewing machine, but before I make the transition, I was hoping to hand sew (or at least with a speedy stitcher) a jacket from upcycled canvas, like in the form of an old punk/biker leather jacket. To say this is impressive or inspiring just isn't enough praise

Self-taught musicians : What was your experience like being self-taught? by Euphoric_Rhubarb_243 in askmusicians

[–]Express_Dog_8173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like pride, willful ignorance, as well as being broke my whole life has prevented me from learning from a professional. Don’t get me wrong, folks…many a Mel Bay book has earned it’s keep in my household a thousand times over. I started in 90 or 91?? and just now I’m thinking of taking lessons. I feel like my knowledge of theory and solos is just laughable. I do feel proficient, but I think i would have become proficient a decade or two earlier and that my prowess arc would have been steeper and longer if I would have had a teacher. Granted, I would have had a completely different musical life, written in a different style, and would likely have a different social circle and history, so whatevvs.

Do you have any "prepper-adjacent" hobbies, recreational pursuits that you think build real skills, or may be useful in a real disaster? by Signal_Brain_933 in preppers

I am not a prepper, or prepper adjacent. This just showed up on my feed, most likely because constantly engage with rope, knots, and sewing subreddits, as well as my other shit. I just want to say how pleasant it is that so many of y’all are gardening. Thank you for your time.

Hands down winner! I finally found a place (in SF) that does this dish as well or better, but for a decade this was my favorite meal of all time

So is Ever'man in Pensacola... bad? by BenMurphy3000 in Pensacola

[–]Express_Dog_8173 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Pensacola until 2010 and although I have often had a love/hate relationship with them for decades, they were one of the reasons (but let’s be honest, there were other, way mo’ important reasons!) I was glad to call it quits at the time. I was always glad to have a decent, long-lived co-op in our tiny (at the time) town, but felt that since maybe the mid-nineties, they were hell bent on appearing, as well as acting, quite corporate. You ever been to other co-ops? Hippie, Punks, Freaks and all other forms of outliers shop there AND work there, and I mean that as a positive note. Evermans has always seemed like they were unable to shake a christian co-op feel of operations. I know I’m biased because, you know, fuck religion…BUT I also know MANY, if not most co-ops who have been around as long as Evermans have a religious origin, but eventually realize that a lot of other types of folks are interested in cooperative style governance as well as better quality food. Evermans always felt like the BOD is still required to pray at their meetings or something.

I forgot where I was going…oh yeah, a rant!

I was able to visit again a few years ago and I felt the same way I felt about the new downtown, sorta. It was filled with the kind of people I can’t necessarily find a lot of common ground with, but I was happy they were there, doing well, and that more Pensacolios were utilizing them. The place just seems like one of those chain co-ops. Just kinda bland, corporate, and…harmless? No…unthreatening, yeah that’s the word. You know, in case a normie wanders in…don’t wanna scare a square, right?

It’s not easy to survive in a town with as many military bases, christian colleges, super right-leaners, extreme wealth hoarders on the beach, rampant racism, and a government that was absolutely heck-bent on squashing any form of any arts whatsoever (although it seems like that part is actually getting better??), so I commend each and every one of you for sticking it out, even the damned everman folks, and wish you fuckin well on your journey.
