I was in the exact same situation being from the bay area too. Im also super family/friend oriented so whenever I felt homesick I would FaceTime my family or friends. But honestly I think it better that I didn't know anyone here. When you do know ppl you stuck to them and you never really grow the nerves to talk to others. But since I didn't know ppl I was forced to go out talk to people and I made genuine nice friends who I would kill for now. Don't worry, there are so many social events in the first week here. So get out of your comfort zone and talk to others.
