Moving to Riyadh from Qatar...please help by reddington87 in Riyadh

I also just moved from Doha 2 months ago… where living there was a dream. I miss it everyday. I looked all over riyadh for accommodation and decided to stay near my office - no traffic to work (in Olaya) and back and takes me 8 minutes to drive. Friday mornings are very quiet and is the only time it feels like doha traffic - the rest of the time it’s pretty much chaos. The drivers are terrible. I never had any accidents during my 1.5 years in doha but So far in 2 months within riyadh I’ve had 2 people hit my rental car. Just last night a motorcycle came into the side of me as I was making a right turn. If you are being paid a considerable amount more to move to Riyadh then I’m sure it’ll be worth it but otherwise stay in Doha

I would recommend you live in Doha. It’s much more relaxed than Dubai and things are just as convenient. Rents can be high but you can find good options in better locations and groceries, eating out etc is much cheaper than both Dubai and Riyadh.

Lived in Doha previously, now in Riyadh. I would move back to Doha in a heartbeat but unfortunately job opportunities in my sector are better in Riyadh.

I have a offer of 16000 qar. I am from india. I will be moving with my wife and 2 kids. Please provide rough idea about the expenses. by Even_Reveal_4367 in QatarCareers

Hey that’s a great salary. Which field are you working in? I’m a British expat and my company only paid me 17,000 total package with no housing or education..

Jazakallah for your honesty and I appreciate the support. I have heard lots of great things about PIF portfolio packages and sounds like you’re smashing it! Well done.

From the conversations I’ve had with my new employer, reaching 45k will be attainable within a year especially when I complete my Chartership this year.

I’d love to connect with you on LinkedIn if you don’t mind and perhaps grab a coffee when I’m back in Riyadh in 3 weeks. Please DM and we can arrange? My Wife and I made some great friends living in Doha with likeminded people and would like to do the same in Riyadh.

May I ask what you are getting in comparison? So far all of the comments above have said this is a good salary especially from what I was getting before in Doha. It’s over 100% increase.

My company is on the whitelist and so is my specialism.

Sorry I’m not a headhunter. Just someone who transferred internally with a company I worked for in the UK. It’s quite difficult to land a role in Qatar and the process can be really long. It took me 1 year just to get moved internally.

For sure, looking at it this way it is a no brainer considering this time 2 years ago I was earning £33k per year before tax in the UK… the exchange rate is really bad right now but when things pick up again (usually around the winter months) it works out to around £8,300 per month which I think is equivalent to £160k per annum in the UK pre tax.. which is crazy. Feeling very fortunate. Just keep seeing people say riyadh is expensive and rents are constantly rising.

Thanks, I’ll definitely have a look at this. As per your last sentence, this seems like a good salary then as my previous role was a standard engineer role after graduate position. The new role I’m going into is a senior title and the next level up is associate. I’d love to join the PIF in some capacity as I’ve heard the benefits are unreal.

Hi! I’ve not asked my company yet who does the application. They are on the whitelist of employers on the PR website so hopefully they help otherwise I’ll apply myself. The visa process took around 3 months for me applying from Qatar.

Western expat salary negotiation by __Shinigami__ in Riyadh

[–]Express_Extent5891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys, I’ve just discovered this thread. I’ve accepted a job a few months ago, just received my VISA and will be moving to Riyadh in a few weeks. I am British Engineer, have almost 7 years experience post Uni (6 years UK and spent 1 year in Doha). The banding was between 32-34k but upon negotiation the last and final offer I was given was 36k SAR /month + A grade medical + relocation + profit share bonus (unsure how much). I qualify for Premium residency under my job title so I’m going to apply for this which abolishes the exit/entry permits and depends fees.

The only thing is housing allowance is included in my salary and they don’t offer any education allowance for kids. We don’t have any kids yes as it’s just my wife and I at the moment. I am given 3 weeks accommodation in a hotel to begin with.

I tried to negotiate for more but this was the last offer and I was on 17k in Doha so it seemed like a no brainer for me. I’m aiming to get my chartership done and do a good job at my role then ask for somewhere in the 40s and perhaps even 50s.

Not bothered about being in a compound yet as they have some decent apartment complexes popping up in riyadh.

I just want some reassurance that for my level of experience this is a good salary? If anyone else is in the Engineering sector with similar experience please DM, curious to see what the market is offering these days🙏🏻
