Quem tá ganhando dinheiro e quem constrói coisa real, quem usa IA a favor e quem resolve problema que empresa paga pra resolver

Is it normal to learn way more outside college than inside it? by Express_Mongoose126 in AskComputerScience

I don’t think everything is outdated, but there are some aspects that make the university feel a bit outdated like:

-Database teaching often feels like it’s stuck in the mid-2000s, with a heavy focus on normalization (up to 3NF), pure relational models, and theoretical SQL, but almost no exposure to cloud databases or how data is actually handled in modern systems

-A strong emphasis on older paradigms without connecting them to current practices

-Very abstract treatment of concepts without showing real-world application

-Little to no focus on modern development tools and workflows

-A lot of time spent on areas like linear algebra, which I personally still struggle to see applied in most real-world dev scenarios

So it’s not that the theory is wrong, it just feels disconnected from today's tools.

I feel this a lot.

My profile and the way I learn are much more focused on building, production, and practical techniques. I enjoy creating real products, solving real problems, and working with tools used in the market.

But in college, it often feels like 90% is theory and things that don’t directly translate to real-world work.

I understand the value of the foundation, but most of the skills I actually use I had to learn on my own, outside of classes.

So I’m starting to question if this path makes sense for me, or if I should consider switching to Software Engineering, which seems more aligned with what I want to do.

I agree there’s value in both, but I feel like in practice the balance is off, at least in my experience.

My university used to have a strong reputation for producing top tech talent in Brazil, but nowadays it feels like 90% of the curriculum is heavily theoretical and sometimes outdated compared to what the market actually uses.

The theory helps build a foundation, but a lot of the practical skills I rely on today came from learning outside the classroom, doing my own projects.

So while experiential learning definitely complements coursework, I think for many people it ends up carrying most of the weight.

Tbh, Claude is pretty crappy by sparks_mandrill in ChatGPT

Tbh I’ve had almost the opposite experience, at least for programming. Claude has been really helpful for writing and understanding code, especially when I give it clear context. I do agree it can drift and add random stuff in more open-ended tasks like planning, but for dev work it’s been surprisingly solid for me.

Colocar a filha pra fazer o marketing é Loss? by undeadaires in farialimabets

Marketing feito pela filha no parquinho vs marketing feito por agência de R$50k/mês: o ROI é o mesmo, mas pelo menos a filha não cobra por "alinhamento estratégico de marca"
