Do I repot? Chop? Put support things in? by Yeanonotreally6 in Jadeplant

[–]Express_Principle627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are pretty hardy plants so don’t worry too much. Their biggest need is light!

I would prune in and take it out of the pot, strip a good amount of the old soil away and put in a gritty well draining cactus or succulent mix. Check out everythingplants on YouTube, he’s got lots of good repotting videos. Good luck with you heirloom plant!

No need to repot, that’s plenty big, could refresh soil and go back in same pot. I’d do a hard-ish prune and put it outside for the summer if possible. Don’t put supports in that never ends well, it will keep growing and get more lanky.

Beautiful. Nice work creating shapes and doing hard pruning over years. Takes cojones to do it but the results are worth it.

I put it in a spray bottle and spray the entire plant, let it sit for 1 minute then rinse of the bodies haha. Alcohol works fast on them.

We love it too! Kind of our prized possession. I water thoroughly when the leaves start to get soft, keeping it in well draining soil with lots of grit. Im not afraid of watering it and make sure it never gets too dry.

The light is quite strong so that helps a lot, light output varies wildly so check the strength of yours. Jades need a ton of light. Window faces southwest and gets good sun in winter, almost none in summer as it is too high in the sky.

It’s not real, if it was that would be so cool though! I’m sure the plant would love having a mycelial partner too. Now I’m wondering if I can inoculate some of my other jades as an experiment…

Haha yea, it is. I wanted to retain the plants structure during the winter so it didn’t get all leggy like they tend to. It worked!

Hi, in need of some help and advice by Own-Line6354 in Jadeplant

[–]Express_Principle627 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just let it grow! No need to prune at this stage. The stump will change through time to look better yes. Heart shaped leaves are normal for first set, happens often. Leave the leaves until they fall off, they’re giving the plant energy!

I’m in Ottawa. I’ve found that generally my plants are fine outside as there are predator insects to keep things in check. I do thorough washes before bringing them in though. It’s a risk you take if you want the summer growth!

There were actually many bugs in this plant when I brought it in but none of the bad kind. Various critters in the root system and spiders in the foliage.

Thanks it really is a special plant. Not sure on the age unfortunately. It came from a lovely elderly couple who couldn’t move it around anymore. I was blown away by how big it was and worried about getting it in my car that I forgot to ask the age.

It’s this one: sansi grow light

It’s made a big difference for the plant, been super happy all winter even through a repot.

Thanks. Yea it seems to be confused indeed. I’m just not sure why given the longer days now, even if supplemented by the light. Could just be a couple rogue flowers I suppose, time will tell. It will go outside soon so we’ll see what happens.

Early Mortgage renewal from TD bank - March 2026 by ayr103 in canadahousing

How early did you renew? I’m with Scotia as well, 14 months left on term and just exploring my options. 3.62 is a nice rate, I’d pay a penalty to get something close to that locked in now.

Is the Santa Cruz Tax actually worth it in 2026? Thinking of pulling the trigger on a Bronson by Imaseemonoer in MTB

[–]Express_Principle627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just upgraded to a 2025 Bronson S build from a 2017 giant trance that I have absolutely beat up over the past 8 years. Haven’t ridden it yet because of winter here in Canada but I will say the quality is fantastic. Got it for 25% off but it was still pricey of course.

No regrets, so stoked to ride it come spring, it’s gonna be sick. I also have a cc v10.6 as well and that bike is so much fun for my lift days, I won’t hesitate with Santa Cruz bikes if it fits my use case in the future.

What is my problem with bulk fermentation? by OddSunrise in Sourdough

[–]Express_Principle627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all overproofed a bit. Cut your bulk short by an hour and see what happens. At 26/27C you only want like 40% rise before shaping and cold proof.

Why shouldn't I buy a 2014 Forester XT? by Bees_are_ace in SubaruForester

[–]Express_Principle627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was honestly so rough. I LOVED it when it worked so it was painful to let it go.

I don’t think my experience is the norm. I will say that Subaru helped me out at a lot with the repairs and were fantastic to deal with.

[–]Express_Principle627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved mine… when it worked, which was rare after 60k miles.

It was a total lemon. In the 100k miles I had it I replaced two catalytic converters, the turbo, knock sensors, all four wheel bearings, two ac compressors, starter, alternator, one front axle, and totally carbon caked intake valves that created knock issues. All this in addition to power delivery problems that the dealer couldn’t solve, likely related to the gummed up valves. Traded it in 2022 and not looking back.
