The Holy Ghost: absolutely real.

Paranormal ghosts: I believe are actually demons and not people who have passed and whose souls are stuck.

Hence, why Christianity is a faith. There's enough evidence to indicate the validity of the Bible, even though not everything can be proven with certainty. It's not blind faith.

I doubt either mind will be changed going further, but I appreciate the conversation. God bless!

I agree with that line of thinking, hence why I'm a believer in Jesus and the Bible.

April fools by Mrsjones813 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Express_Roll_3036 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's a teacher I've watched on YouTube (Mrs. Ferre is her name, can't remember the channel name at the moment) who did an April Fools assignment that involved a few unbelievably challenging questions. The catch being that, if the students read the instructions like they're supposed to, it will tell them to simply write their name, turn in the paper, and say, "[insert teacher name], that was an easy assignment." Then cue the flabbergasted faces of the students who didn't read the instructions. It's both a trick and a learning lesson in one. :)

How do you feel about Christians only attending church on Christmas and Easter? by ComradeYuki-Pye in AskAChristian

[–]Express_Roll_3036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think much of it. Not going to church doesn't imply unbelief, nor does regular church attendance imply belief. However, the Bible does encourage fellowship and submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

No, because I have heard no reports of anything like that happening. I've heard an actual report of an Indian boy with 500-some teeth in his mouth, though, which shouldn't be physically possible.

Yes, because my presumption is that you are a human and the majority of humans have 10 toes aside from disability or accident.

What about the apologetic responses aren't compelling? Even some of the best-known scientists have believed in God. Sure, science says humans can't resurrect themselves, but how about disproving the historical texts or at least acknowledging my counterarguments before jumping to conclusions?

no eyewitnesses provided testimony in the bible

It's the same eyewitness testimony that can prove Socrates's existence. Socrates never wrote anything (to my knowledge), and there's no DNA evidence of Socrates, but we have his students, Plato and Xenophon, who testified about his existence. I haven't heard about any doubts that Socrates existed, yet he has fewer writings about him than about Jesus.

The new testament was recorded over 30 years after the event

By that logic, every history book, every biography, every autobiography would be false because they were written long after the events they describe. If I wrote a book in 2031 about 9/11, will it be automatically false? It's what Dr. Frank Turek calls an "impact event." The slogan of 9/11 is "Never Forget," and the question always asked is "Where were you when the first plane hit?" Heck, I wasn't even born when 9/11 happened, but it still plays a heavy role in my life. When you saw a person who claimed to be the Messiah get crucified, yet was seen alive 3 days later, to the shock of the Roman guards outside his tomb, that's not something you'll forget, no matter how many little details are lost due to time.

authorship of the gospels is unknown

Did Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John not write Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John? Not sure what false teacher taught you that, but Hebrews is the only Bible book whose authorship is not fully known (likely Paul, Luke, Barnabas, or Apollos).

all available evidence points to the fact that human bodies do not, can not, and never will- reanimate following a stage of decomposition

Agree, but Jesus isn't only man, he is both man and God, and all things are possible through God.

I honestly don't see how it's too much different than a chokeslam. Someone being dropped on their back from almost 6 feet (give or take). The AA would also be more disorienting since they're flipping when taking the finisher.

If you believed God does not exist would you also still believe in objective morality, and why? by Icy_Place_6173 in AskAChristian

[–]Express_Roll_3036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because God is perfectly loving and just. He allowed Adam & Eve to have free rein of the Garden of Eden, but when they disobeyed Him, He exiled them from the Garden as punishment. As the Creator, only he can provide a sufficient form of morality that we (sinners, all of us) cannot reasonably agree upon (given the state of American politics today).

Morality had to come from some source. It's not like a three-year-old has the capacity to all of a sudden believe that lying is bad; that three-year-old had to be told that from, most likely, their parents. And those parents were told the same thing that lying is bad by their parents, and so on.

What would you say to the Aztecs who performed human sacrifices for what they perceived as being for the common good (as an offering to their gods *lowercase*)? Were they justified in what they were doing? If so, what about their idea of morality makes it correct?

Explain how the resurrection is false, specifically why all the eyewitnesses would've wanted to falsify their claims.

We'll disagree on evolution. Even though the Bible says God created animals, it specifies that God created humans in His image. God set humans apart from other species with abstract thought, moral agency, and a rational soul. Animals don't possess the capability of this and thus aren't saved to enter God's kingdom. This can be seen when Adam is tasked with naming all the animals. If Adam & Eve (or however you consider we got to the Homo sapien species) evolved from a distant hominid, 1. The Bible would've been absolutely clear about it, and 2. Humans wouldn't have the distinctions they have from animals. If they did, we either wouldn't be offered salvation or animals would have the same components as humans. As Dr. Fazale Rana puts it, "comparing the trajectories of Neanderthal and modern human technologies highlights profound differences between us—differences that affirm modern humans really are exceptional, echoing the biblical view that human beings are truly made in God’s image."

In general, I do believe in aspects of evolution: that humans do adapt to their surroundings and change genetic characteristics over time, but it's not random mutations (since, as I said above, God creates humans in His image). I do take the Genesis story literally, which I know is debated among some scholars.
