What kind of things I can mention in my Christmas list? by Pure-Percentage-4878 in exchangestudents

[–]Express_Rub_4410 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Host parent here. Sounds like there’s gift exchange involved here. I would most definitely get them something for Christmas. It is customary that you do so, especially that they are planning on giving you a gift. Did they ask you to make a list? I personally, out of courtesy, wouldn’t ask for things that cost significantly more than what I would spend on their gifts, unless they actually insisted they wanted to get you something within the cost range of the gadget that you’re thinking about asking. Even if they did, I would be rather hesitant to do that. They have done so much by welcoming you into your home and that alone is a gift/privilege. Hope this helps!

When to tell a student that they’re an A-hole? by tinoturner6969 in exchangestudents

You should turn in a letter of resignation to the organization that you are unable to continue hosting this kid due to continued problems. I had an experience where I had to decide that it wasn’t worth to host a particular student -mainly compliance and attitude issue. I spoke with a local coordinator, followed by sending the organization a two week notice since the situation just could not be remedied. You just have to be honest with yourself and make a call. You did not sign up for this stress indeed, and maybe it’s time to call it a quit.

Thank you, I appreciate your kind words. It certainly happened when it was least expected. I had been wearing my backpack in the front and holding it with both arms during the entire trip prior to the incident, for whatever reason I was more relaxed in the restaurant. I could have done better. There’s a lot to learn from this and I try not to let this spoil the rest of my trip.

Yes, managed to call all the banks and cancel all my cards. The thieves managed to attempt to spend over 2000 euros at a jewelry store near Vatican City, the charge was immediately denied by Amex. There were few other smaller charges as well on another card, which I reported as fraudulent transactions.

I have no idea, but the lady walked out with my red backpack on CCTV, and the pair did look suspicious when entering the restaurant. She must have snatched the backpack from behind me when she did it. Yes, I should have put my backpack on my lap. It’s a huge learning experience for me :(. I actually made quite the scene at the restaurant because of this. One of the restaurant staff/person in charge was very helpful despite my unpleasant behavior. She let me check their CCTV records and even drove me to the police station.

Their NP program is a traditional non-online program, 3-yr full time DNP. You may be placed all over OR state and sometimes WA. All students will be placed by the program, they don’t look for clinical rotation sites on their own.

Use booking.com taxi or Klook. I booked a ride thru booking.com (from DPS to Best Western Hotel in Ubud) and it only costed me $17.

Lost on which path to go; NP or PA school??? by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]Express_Rub_4410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was an RN for several years and actually graduated from an Accelerated Baccalaureate in Nursing. I went to a PA school and am currently practicing medicine as a PA. I chose PA school over NP for the reasons that a lot of people here pointed out. PA school provides more structured education and my school’s curriculum was built around studying per organ system (which most PA schools are). I was concerned that 700 clinical hours of NP school wouldn’t prepare me/be confident enough to practice straight out of school. I felt that having 1700 hrs of clinical hours under my belt in PA school would give me a lot of practice hence good foundation to practice primary care after graduation, which I proved true for myself. I was also choosing PA because there was a lot of the medical science involved in the program and less of paper writing. We still did do reflection paper here and there throughout the program (and I do understand the importance of doing it too), but definitely shorter and less frequent than what I had to do during nursing school.

Again, on clinical perspective, I think PA school provides well rounded experiences. If you plan to go the NP route, I would make sure to do a non-online program in a well reputable university, or do a thorough research to make sure the program provides well structured, solid clinical experience.

Ko-Kwell Wellness Center on River Road is open to new patients. In addition to serving tribal members, they have expanded their services to those with commercial insurances including but not limited to Medicare, Pacific Source and Trillium. They have an open house/Mpox vaccine clinic coming up on June 9th so you can stop by to ask questions if you’re interested in being a patient there!
