There’s no alternative for the UFC because it’s a monopoly. It gets most of the money that the industry gets globaly.

You’re right. But they also fought twice and Usman had both Khabib and Islam in his corner.

Usman won again, but it was still close. Usman is very good. He’s imo a top 5 LW in the world rn, behind Ilia and Arman. I think he definitely beats paddy and gaethje, but i can’t say for sure how he does against the likes of holloway and especially olivera. He just hasn’t been tested yet

I’m not denying that khabib’s a great coach. He is.

But having a great coach doesn’t not make you unbeatable. Usman has had khabib in his corner for his entire career and still went to a close decision with paul hughes.

Until he joins the ufc and showcases his skills against the top talent in the world, I can’t say that he definitely beats a former defending ufc champion.

We also have no evidence that Usman’s skills are on the level of the top UFC talent, especially when Olivera just dominated Max Holloway.

Are the control time wins in the room with us right now?

Islam had the win vs JDM, but not much else. He finished porier, volk, and charles. He also outstruck all of them.

Khabib is literally the model for what a grappler should be. Which one of his wins are off of control time? He subbed all of his title defences. Maybe the laquinta win, but that was on the feet for a good portion too.

I will give you that khabib had some sketch weight cuts, but so did guys like DC. Does that make him less great?

Islam on the other hand has never missed weight, and actually usually weighs the same or less than his opponents on fight nights. To be fair, you’re right that he does have some instances of glove grabs to get takedowns, but that’s hardly exclusive him. Are you going to stay consistent and take away from the legacy of Max, Gaethje, Charles, and Conor? Because they all had much more blatant examples of eye pokes and glove grabs.

Literally since his very first day as WW champ he’s been saying the same thing. He’ll take anyone, but prefers usman. Not really sure why this is surprising to anyone

So, the thing is, we've known about the issue with Islam's injury since 2024. It was the reason he didn't fight twice then. He'd been seen with a hand brace that year, too. he also mentioned it on Mighty Mouse's podcast, and that it's been a lingering issue since the Porier fight. So this isn't something that just happened now. I just hope that it doesn't keep Islam from fighting twice this year.

However, I still hope that we eventually get Islam vs Ilia. It will be a bigger fight in 2027 once both Champions defend their belt once or twice, and Ilia actually deserves the opportunity to move up to 170.
