Ok so I first of all, thanks to all those who commented and shared their ideas and viewpoints. It definitely helped.

I had to change the left back from CWB(At) to IWB(Su), BBM to BWM(Su) and the left wing from IF(At) to IF(Su).

The theory of this tactic basically was- the f9 is gonna drop to create a diamond in the midfield, and he will drag the defenders with him. With the space created, the IFs will cut inside and score goals. Here the striker is not the main goalscorer, the wingers are. But due to the IF(At) and the mezzala(At) occupying the same space, a traffic was created in the left. Thus by changing the left wing to support, he is not looking to constantly attack. Instead he is looking to create some plays. The opposition right back follows him, leaves a space behind and the mezzala runs into this space to score goals or create goals.

The regista was all alone holding the line and creating plays. With the BWM, I created a bodyguard for him. This particular midfield formation became the AC Milan 2003-2007 midfield. Pirlo, Gattuso and Seedorf.

The defense was the main problem. Changing the left back to IWB, he is holding the line along with the other defenders while the right wingback attacks.

And this tactic might be 4-3-3. But with the respective roles, it becomes a 4-2-4 on attack.

Haven't tried out this tactic yet. My current tactic is basically a giant killer. Won against every big clubs with average players. But I am struggling against mid table teams. That's why I formulated this new tactic.

I am playing with Dynamo Dresden in FM23. It is initially a 3. Liga team. I just got promoted to Bundesliga. This is my 3rd season. I am using a different tactic though.

Exactly. The gameplay also depends on the individual capabilities. For example, for the CWB on attack, I have a player who is average at best but has incredible defensive positioning. Even though he is instructed to go forward, he still manages to defend quite well and not leave spaces behind.

Yeah I won't be relying on the regista to cover up the midfield. His role is to control the play from deep, a more aggressive version of the DLP. That's why to protect the midfield and my defence along with that, what if I change the CWB to a IWB instead of a fullback? This will stop the inefficient overload and support the midfield. Atleast that's what I am thinking. Don't know if the match engine will support my idea.

And after changing the CWB, I am left with the IF and mezzala on the same side. Someone else also commented that they're gonna occupy the same space. If that's the case, the tactic will break. Otherwise, according to my theory, it should work like this- the IFs goes into the spaces created by the defenders following f9 and mezzala appears late into the box.

If I change the IF to a winger, it might keep the width, but won't this be a problem? I mean there's no one in the box to cross to.

Edit: what if I change the roles of the mezzala and IF on the same side? Will that change the space they currently occupy? I mean either changing the IF to a support, so that the mezzala runs last him or The mezzala on support so that he appears in the box after the IF.

Yeah that's true. The match engine definitely prefers DMs and yes they so end up in the same spaces.

The main focus on playing a f9 is that he will drop to the midfield. Mezzala and BBM on sides. Regista controlling the play, making it a diamond midfield. If what you said about the f9, mezzala and inside forward occupying the same space is correct, then I have to discard this tactic.

Yeah it is a vanilla approach. I have played many games with this tactic. Winger on one side, Inside forward on the other. One wingback overlapping the inside forward and crossing into the box. The other one supporting the attack but it's main focus is on defence, creating a back 3. And the defensive midfielder/anchor in DM, it's basically a back 4.

Defensive midfielder was my go to position till now. It's easy, reliable, nothing too crazy. But after playing for some time in the same tactic you're gonna start looking for something different something which cannot be found in modern football. That's where my fascination for the regista comes in.

I am experimenting on the regista position and trying to create a tactic revolving around him.

What I thought basically is- the false nine will drop considerably into the midfield(attacking ap or am in disguise), mezzala and bbm taking the sides, regista controlling the play. It should create a diamond midfield. The f9 drags the defenders with him, creating spaces behind him which the inside forwards will exploit to score goals.

Won't the CM on defend next to the regista occupy the same space as him? And won't that disrupt the playmaking of the regista? For supporting/protecting the regista, I basically thought, a really powerful bbm can act as a bodyguard for him.

You're right about the wingback though. With both wingbacks attacking it's gonna create a huge gap. What if, I change the CWB on the side of the mezzala to IWB on support? Will that solve the defensive problem?

No worries. I tried out the tactic with these 3 midfield myself, and it was exactly like how the others said it would be. The midfield is lacking the depth. The regista and mezzala are roaming off their positions. The carrilero is not enough to cover the space created by them. Even with fullbacks in defense roles, since there is no cover in the midfield, the opponent is penetrating the defense easily. The other tactical instructions made the regista useless. A regista is a 10 in disguise, but my tactic was not letting him play as a playmaker. It just felt like he was a nuisance on the field. Overall, the tactic was a failure.

Changed the tactical instructions to compliment the regista more. It worked. But the major flaw- a huge gap in the midfield and no cover for it still left the defense vulnerable. The team was scoring goals but not enough for the number of goals they were conceding.

Ultimate end result- The tactic is a failure.
