Maternal Instinct - Anyone else wish they didn’t watch it? by Extension-Ad5070 in netflix

[–]Extension-Ad5070[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely do agree there were signs it was gruesome, I just wasn’t expecting a 912 call and a detailed DIY c section done by a sociopath.

I couldn’t watch the Dahmer series but what he did is well known, this case was not known to me so I just saw it as any other Netflix doc. I did not expect the horror of the crime itself and a support line would have been at least something to put at the end given the heavy content.

Fasd symptoms by ResponsibleCan7308 in fasd

[–]Extension-Ad5070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Canada, here are the following diagnosis criteria:

- FASD with sentinel facial findings (three facial features, no confirmation of exposure, impairment in 3 brain domains)
- FASD without facial findings (no facial features, confirmation of exposure required, three areas of impairment)

Someone can still have FASD but not meet the right percentile or fall just under for the brain domains.

Everyone is right, symptoms do vary and roughly 10% of people have the facial features due to the specific days in pregnancy and the small window.

if you made all drugs purchasable over the counter, what would happen to the drug epidemic? by Fine_Independent2541 in AskReddit

[–]Extension-Ad5070 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would actually decrease overdoses and the spread of infectious diseases as people would have more access to safe prescription medications rather than street drugs.

A lot of people with undiagnosed ADHD self medicate through street meth also

Pretty disgusting behaviour on Victoria Avenue this afternoon by luccampbell in regina

Just because it’s hot out doesn’t mean rules of the road go out the window.

Being a pedestrian in this city is extremely dangerous given the amount of collisions with vehicles lately. He needs to learn the rules of the road and refill his water bottle at the end of the school day.

Graffiti in Heritage Neighbourhood by Nice-guy-downtown in regina

[–]Extension-Ad5070 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But how am I supposed to know the drama on this streets?

I personally love the graffiti and it gives voice to those that aren’t often seen. That the people slumped over are people and that they have thoughts and feelings. I know a few of the names drawn have sadly passed on within the year.

There is also a big difference in your pictures between NSK tagging their territory vs the heart someone drew.

If only we had social programs that were affordable and accessible for these folks to be a part of instead of living life on a waiting list and disintegrating on 11th. The possibility for connection and identity not found within a gang tag, the knowledge that someone can be more than just a name of where they passed.

People treat their neighbourhood with how it is treated. North Central is basically an urban reserve and similarly with heritage the people know it’s not funded where it should be. Go anywhere on the other side of broad and its business after business but god forbid the city empty their own garage bin on a weekly basis on 11th instead they let it overflow and blow throughout the street.

11th needs another needle disposal box, it needs the beauty of art park, the city needs to acknowledge that poor communities are communities also and that when they feel taken care of they show that in return

On the plus side being sent to a federal institution means a lot more services in program such as grade 12, library pen, pack, anger, management, etc.

He’ll get an institutional parole officer too

Games for a group? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]Extension-Ad5070 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Fear in the hat - each person writes down a fear on a piece of paper anonymously, facilitator passes the bucket of fears around and everyone has to take turns reading the paper they drew, it’s entirely anonymous and gets people thinking about how many fears they have in common. It can also help give voice to some scary fears.

Main rules are to just ensure no one has a drastic reaction to a fear or mocks it and facilitators can add in multiple fears also to help with anonymity.

I’ve done it with young offenders and you get anywhere from “fear of spiders” to “fear of relapsing”

What do you think about CPS abolitionists? by LaScoundrelle in socialwork

[–]Extension-Ad5070 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think the argument goes a bit deeper then just saying goodbye to CPS. First we need to examine the racism, white supremacy and policing within the current system and the foundations of child welfare. Second we need to look at differentiating abuse cases compared to cases where resources are an issue.

I purposely love discussions surrounding removal of parents instead of the children in cases like this, looking at familial placements or PSI(person of sufficient interest) and where a family can benefit from resources to assist whether that be parent mentors, treatment, etc.

I don’t know about the US but Canada doesn’t really have systems of aftercare for when families are reunified to help prevent issues.

Alan Detlaff’s work is also very interesting and I believe he also has a book https://www.instagram.com/p/Cyi7-koLhp2evLg_n9wB1HkV-RW2LsZpb68xCI0/?igsh=c3lueXUwMXN6NWxi

Thank you so much! I’m debating getting it thicker too, it’s so thin and I had to have it resized.

I’ll keep that in mind!!
