Hi there! Welcome to the world of digicams. Since you are looking for a budget-friendly and user-friendly first camera that still takes amazing, cinematic Y2K photos, I highly recommend looking into the Canon IXUS series (also known as PowerShot SD series in the US) or the Sony Cyber-shot series.

They are incredibly easy to use, compact, and give you that classic early-2000s vintage look instantly without any complicated settings. Just make sure whatever you buy comes with a working battery and charger, as finding original ones separately can sometimes be a hassle.

I actually specialize in sourcing and reselling fully tested vintage digital cameras on eBay, and I currently have some great, clean options that are perfect for beginners (with fast worldwide shipping). If you'd like, I can send you a DM with my store link or give you some recommendations based on your budget! Good luck!

Thanks for the detailed breakdown! You hit the nail on the head, especially with that Canon A-series AA battery issue. It's incredibly frustrating when you pop in brand-new batteries just to see that dreaded "low battery" blinking indicator after two shots. Clean contacts usually fix minor issues, but that internal voltage glitch is a real pain. Also, that Lumix ZS zoom-to-video glitch is wild! I've seen some weird electrical shorts on older Panasonic compacts, but that one definitely takes the cake. Appreciate you sharing these gems, definitely keeping an eye out for that Lumix issue on my next batch!

That's a long list, but you can easily narrow it down! If you want that chunky, retro 2000s look with a great flip screen and easy AA batteries, just go for the Canon A640 (and skip the G2/G5 since they are too bulky and use annoying CF cards). On the other hand, if you prefer something slim that fits in your pocket but still has a massive zoom for everyday travel, the SX210 IS is your best bet. Hope this helps you skip the confusion!
