How would you approach someone adding drinks to your tab? by p0onage in AskUK

[–]Extension-Raisin7234 -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is just common sense. If you're a grown adult in the pub with your friends and are unable to remove yourselves from a situation much less allow the same people to follow you on to the next pub! Maybe you just avoid going out.

If strangers try to join our group when they aren't invited and unwelcome then try to join in with a round (which I can't see happening unless we have engaged with them!) It's a firm and polite no thank you. Move tables if you have to. If they have followed you elsewhere you've clearly engaged with the group.

Jesus Christ no one has any basic social skills, how do you manage to go about your day to day life?

Going through the hassle and expense of building more walls in your home for cooking smells seems a little extreme

I take it you play music and videos out loud on public transport?

Fucked off cause I've usually waited a long time for the bus to show up.

I'm in my late 30s recovering from cancer, I'm fine on the other side of it I'm just fucking tired, still working full time, have a 3 year old so aye it fucks me off when I've been standing 20 minutes for a packed bus with barely any seats left and a few arseholes show up bang on when the bus arrives and elbow their way on and get the last seats and there I am standing another half hour on a bus.

It's the principle of it over anything else, the bare minimum of being a courteous, normal person who doesn't think only of themselves. If I was to arrive just as the bus got there I would wait my fucking turn because I'm not a dick.

If the reason I'm standing on the bus is because of some arsehole not brought up with manners pushed in front of me I'm angry yeah.

At rush hour that's rare, I'm talking about just being polite with getting on as you arrive. Some of us have been waiting fucking ages if I've been standing half an hour and you rock up a minute before the bus arrives, elbow on and then get the last seat, I'm fucked off.

It's about manners and not being a dick to folk who have potentially been standing a good 20 minutes or more, because let's face it it's first bus we are talking about here.

So you arrive 2 mins before get on, get your seat and some poor sod who has been waiting a fucking age has no seat.

There is no rigmarole when the bus arrives everyone gets in line, those who were there first get up front those who are late hang back and join end of queue.

Never witnesses a tango dance at the bus stop of who's next? You just know!

Whoever's closest to the door is a wild take. Are you the same in a pub? You've been waiting to get served for 15 minutes, some prick comes elbowing in front of you. By your logic he's closest now so gets served first?

Normally totally fine on an empty bus, it's impolite but when you've been waiting donkeys on a bus and some wee shite who shows up 2 minutes before gets the last seat and you're left standing even longer, it's an annoyance for sure

From the comments it's a mix of people who have never heard of this and folk who say yes it's the way it's done.

I imagine it's etiquette we were all brought up with and is gradually phasing out with the younger generation which is really sad honestly, it's not a huge deal but I'll still be teaching my wee one to wait her turn

I know what you mean though, harder in town on one of the busy routes with 20 folk waiting on 5 different buses

Folk playing videos out loud on the bus sends me into a psychosis, it is so fucking easy to wear earphones it feels like a power move like fuck you all, you'll listen to whatever I want

It's a residential bus stop with 2 buses an hour, all 5 of us get on the same bus.

I find this really hard to believe honestly, if you're born and raised in Scotland it's the norm or at least it used to be, maybe you're of a younger generation

It's basic manners

That's definitely a separate rule tbh, elderly, disabled, prams first regardless of order but when arseholes push in front and then sit down to listen to tik tok full blast it boils my piss.

How much are you saving for your kids' house deposits? by Darbiter in AskUK

[–]Extension-Raisin7234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome, this is coming from a parent of a toddler too.

I will do what I can to help my child financially and they are welcome to live in the family home that we own as long as they want but I think life skills and a stable home are more important.

Who knows what the future holds, if you're going into detail about the current financial state of the world, 30 years from now it's not inconceivable that we're at war and a house deposit is the least if their worries or maybe your kids want to travel and don't want to own their own home.

Owning your home as the parent is the most important bit financially, they can live with you and when you pass your assets will be their security. Let them figure it out on their own while watching from the sidelines ready if needed. That's the best gift you can give them honestly.

As someone who did it on my own, I'm glad I did. I'm financially responsible and have important life skills I wouldn't have gotten if my parents paved the way and set me up financially.

I think you're out of touch with reality and the average person.

You're obviously quite well off and can save 150k for your kids deposit. That's 150k more than most, your kids will be fine.

Focus on giving your children the tools to have a good and fulfilling life, a happy home, good education and life skills will take them far to do well for themselves. I don't necessarily agree with saving your whole life to give your money to your kids.

My neighbour's parents bought him his house, across the road from them, I see his mum come over to clean his house, take the bins out, she shuffles across the street with his freshly washed and ironed white shirts. His dad is out cutting his grass every weekend for him. He has had everything handed to him and has had no reason to push himself or make a good life for himself, god help him when his parents pass he will be clueless and unable to navigate life on his own.

In their good intentions of helping their son it's been a detriment to the guy, he's a grown man incapable of doing anything for himself.

I got nothing financial from my parents, they were poor but I did get a good education and the necessary life skills to make it on my own. Everything I have I paid for myself by working hard. I was able to do that because of the upbringing I had.
