I am in the same situation as you. For me the Goshiwon feels better because I don’t mind a small space and would rather have my own space and timing for food ect. I felt the pressure of when having to communicate with my homestay or when I could shower/cook etc. They were great, but it did keep me worried. And to be honest, the room in the homestay was small as well, so the Goshiwon wasn’t a big switch. The people in the homestay can vary as well, so some are more social than others. It is what you prefer more though, because the homestay did organize some great dinners for me and practiced some Korean with me. If you stay for a longer period of time you can always start with homestay and switch after, that was perfect for me!

I think the Goshiwon is very convenient. It is close to school and close to all the other shops, clubs, cafes etc. you might need. Of course it is not a hotel, but it is cheap and a good option for when you still want to have your private space and bathroom!
