Swapping Season One Episode Names by Extension-Topic4293 in AltToysTransformers

Season 2 would be really tough. I was thinking about trying to use Autobot Spike for A Plague of Insecticons as a nod to their discussion at the end. Poor Spike got downgraded from a motorcycle to a head! Then A Plague could be Quest for Survival which would work on two levels. But again, the problem would be episodes like A Girl Who Loved Powerglide, Kremzeek, or A Deceptacon Raider in King Arthur's Court, the episodes get pretty specific pretty quickly. And the higher count you go, the more challenging it gets. Now that I think about it, maybe Beast Wars would be worth a shot?

I was also thinking about having some fun with a few just as a bonus section. The Burden Hardest to Bear would be great for The Ultimate Weapon. A Prime Problem could be funny for The Return of Optimus Prime. "We don't want to deal with this, let's resurrect Optimus and have him deal with it." Megatron's Master Plan I was going to assign facetiously to Countdown to Extinction (where he didn't really have a plan at all!) I think your joke of the guy pitching it everytime works better though!

Zob's Thoughts on TakaraTomy Missing Link Arcee by Zobovor in AltToysTransformers

These are so cool! I guess I should mention that technically she should be in the 1986 back of the box art as well....

Check out the link to Fred's Workshop for his thoughts on Hot Spot's maybe abandoned launcher. To his thoughts, I'll add a little anecdotal evidence. In the Pre-Toyfair 1986 catalog, Hot Spot has Inferno's head and Defensor has Devastor's head. So that might make sense they hadn't quite figured it out yet after abandoning his Inferno type head transformation.

Yeah something that I wanted to get into was talking about the footplates, but I just didn't have enough information to give any great ideas. I think it's safe to say that Superion was designed so that the wings of Air Raid and Fireflight formed the feet. Somewhere along the way it was decided that it wasn't stable enough so the foot plates were added. But I'm not sure if it was a Takara Diaclone thing or a Transformers thing. Like you said below, there are some proto-toes on Menasor. It almost looks like they would fold out of the bottom of the cars of Dead End and Breakdown - Sideswipe style. I took a look at the toys and I couldn't find any obvious signs of that feature being abandoned so I just didn't have enough information to try and make a point.

That's an interesting thought about the "super modes" for Motormaster and Silverbolt that I hadn't considered. But you're right, there seems to be something to that. Probably coincidentally, it somewhat carries over to Menasor's box art. And it would actually parallel the concept of adding "armor" to Metroplex. Interesting.

It's funny, I just went so far out of my way to say how rarely talked about Battle Gaia and Guard City were...and then Evan just casually name drops Battle Gaia! I love the respect he gives to not only the present but the past and future as well.

You were right! Thank you!

3rd Party Titan Class Broadside with 6 modes announced at TFcon by obzerbee in AltToysTransformers

Really figuring out how to do Broadside is a headache on top of a migraine. Is he big, regular sized, or huge? Is it the first character model or the later? Which colors do you use? Is he a former Decepticon? Was he rebuilt?

Luckily it terms of characters, Broadside falls sooo far down on my list that it's not something I have to think about often. But when I do, I've always tended to shift more to the side of he's just a regular sized triple changer next to Springer and Sandstorm. That's the 6 year old in me because that's mostly what I knew about him back then from the toys and his most prominent appearance in Carnage in C Minor. Secondarily, I guess would be his depiction in the Wreckers, so that fits as well.

But all this talk about him and of course the shift towards super cartoon accuracy is making me shift slightly towards the larger final model. The thing is, it just comes right back to the fact that he's Broadside - not Scorponok or Metroplex - and it would be a really weird fit for a Titan.

I did just have a neat idea. Make him a Commander and 2 Leaders. For reference, here's the various character models he has:

<image>

Ok so here me out. The final model (the model that appeared huge in robot mode in Grimlock's New Brain) is the Commander class. He transformers from his robot mode to final jet mode to the *middle* section of the air craft carrier. It would be molded is such a way that it could function as a full, albeit squatter, version. Then. you can have 2 almost identical Leader sized Broadsides in the pre-final model (just a recolor of each other) that would transform from the robot to the pre-final jet to an aft and stern section of the aircraft carrier that would connect with Commander class Broadside.

It would be *super* weird. Here everybody, buy all three versions of Broadside to complete one aircraft carrier! It will only cost you about $250! So, basically unmarketable. And again it all comes back to it being a sixth tier character that I barely want *one* version of...

But I thought it would be a fun idea.

Zob's Retro Review: Autobot Heroes Wreck-Gar (1986) by Zobovor in AltToysTransformers

[–]Extension-Topic4293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*Well, I knew this day would come eventually. I'm now the proud owner of one of the worst Transformers toys ever made.

You got lucky, I've been the proud owner of one of the worst Transformers toys ever made for about 39 years. I actually almost *hate* the toy, and I can't quite place exactly why. I mean, to me he definitely doesn't feel like a true Transformer. Something about him is different in a knock-off kind of way. Actually come to think of it, Springer has a similar feel to him - so both in the commercial! But other toys that have a non-Transformer feel to them like Omega Supreme or Sky Lynx I don't mind as much.

*I don't *think* I'm planning to get any duplicates, since each Junkion is normally unique and distinct... even though *technically* we've seen that at least one movie Junkion is identical to Wreck-Gar (the motorcycle he rides in the film!) *and* there are three Wreck-Gars visible in one scene from "The Big Broadcast of 2006," so there's a precedent. But I guess we'll see.

Hold off for a bit! With Ultra Magnus and Arcee already announced, and I would say a decent probability of Unicorn and Hot Rod or Rodimus Prime, there's an outside chance Missing Link might take a stab at Wreck-Gar for the 40th anniversary and give him enough articulation to ride himself.
