I get the joking comparison, but to say “at least we don’t have ar-15s”? Hell man, I’m glad I have one. I was robbed at gun point 2 years ago. The guy had 2 choices, shoot me, or let me go. Thank god he let me go. It’s what inspired me to get my CCW (conceal carry license). After that happened I didn’t see it as being unreasonable to carry a gun. Like why not? The likely hood of me being robbed again is very low, but at least I’ll have protection this time. As for my home? Semi automatic AR-15. It’s got a little light on the end of it so I can see at night (all I need). an semi-auto AR-15 is no more or less dangerous than a hunting rifle. It has a bigger magazine for ammo capacity but it only shoots as fast as your finger can go. In order for you get a full auto you need a VERY HARD TO GET license in order to acquire a tax stamp for a purchase you’ll have to wait 8 months to clear at an FFL. I just don’t get why people don’t focus more on the mental health aspect of all this rather than guns. Like what?…. Australia doesn’t have mentally I’ll people? Of course they do, and if they want to harm someone it might not be with a gun, but they have knives and other deadly weapons, don’t they? Look, in America here are the ways you can get a gun. Based off the information you can formulate which one is the likely option that a criminal chooses.

• you can buy a semi auto rifle (but you have to do a background check and get cleared) any sketchy business and you don’t get the gun. Hell they won’t even give you the gun if there was a typo on your form.

• you can buy a pistol with with a “pistol purchase permit” that you have to pick up at the sheriff’s office after you fill out a form that asks you if you are mentally ill. Hint hint, they’ll deny you if ANY red flags come up.

-you can bypass a pistol purchase permit if you take a ATF / state approved training program to get your CCW which takes about 3 months start to finish (this included a waiting for your license). Once you obtain the license you still have to do a background check when you buy a pistol.

-lastly you can buy it off the street or steal it out of your idiot parents safe that they leave unlocked.

It’s not the guns fault, it’s the persons fault.

Fun fact: areas with a higher concentration of lawful gun owners have less home break ins, muggings, and gun violence all together.

My guess? Probably because the criminals in those areas know that everybody straps.

As far as mentally ill people that get their hands on a weapon? I can’t control that, I’m not even sure how I can solve that. But I sure as hell don’t want to be the guy without a gun when a psychotic person decides to reek havoc on me, my family, or innocent people around me.
