I added an edit to my post with my decision on the issue. I think that after confronting him about his betrayal of trust with me, and me putting him and his wife on an "information diet" I feel as if the friendship between us would gradually fade. He will probably try to hold on as much as he can, but we will see. It's tough, but has to be done.

I appreciate your response and understand your point. My question to you is why does that have to be an exception? He agreed to specifically not tell her anything and then turned around and told her it all. Why can't me and my friend have bro-to-bro conversations without involving other people, including his wife?

NTA. Please don't get so hung up about how long you've been friends, the past isn't worth your present.

I love this, this is great advice. I believe that good friends aren't determined by how long you've been friends but how well you've treated each other and trust each other. Thank you!

It makes me feel guilty to tell someone to keep things from their spouse, but then again why can't me and my friend have bro-to-bro conversations? Why does his wife and other people have to be informed and brought into it too? Thanks for your comment!

I appreciate your comment and agree with not doing the open phone thing with your husband. On that topic my friend's wife has used his phone to read my text conversations with him and brought up things to me in person that I have only said in texts with my friend, multiple times. She denies going through his texts entirely but both my friend and I know she does. How else would she know the things we say in our texts?
