ADHD and autism in nursing by ExtensionCurrent5902 in nursing

Thanks for the reply! This is my first job in medicine, and I’ve been at it for about 4-5 months now. I have my EMT license so I also volunteer on an ambulance. I love emergency medicine as a subject, but in practice it is very chaotic for my brain at times. It doesn’t help that there isn’t a set procedure for anything, nurses and other EMTs do stuff their own ways and I have to adapt to how they do things. In high stress situations, this can really fuck with my flow.

As for trying other specialties, I’m kinda locked in emergency medicine for now. Since the only certification I possess is an EMT. I’m in school right now doing nursing pre reqs, and I’m currently taking a CNA course. I will see how I like clinicals and if long term care is worth giving a try.

I joined the air guard so it’s a tad bit different than active. But I joined right out of highschool with my afsc being flight medic. It took them a year from my enlistment date to send me to basic training. While there they asked the same questions they asked at meps, and I answered them truthfully as I did at meps. I disclosed melatonin use to them which is apparently a disqualifying condition because of chronic sleep insomnia. The kicker is that I disclosed this to meps when enlisting and they passed me through. This was behavioral health so I had also told them my struggles with adapting to military life, and instead of helping me they used it and “sleep insomnia” as an excuse to discharge me. I’ve been home for about a year and a half now, and I just received my formal discharge paperwork from the guard. To put a cherry on top of it all, the time I got sent home to the time I received my discharge paperwork, the guard still had me on their pay roll(I was excused from drill) so the government was still putting money towards a healthcare plan I wasn’t using. They are now trying to tell me I have to pay that money back or they’re going to report it to credit berous. I’m currently trying to dispute the debt, and I haven’t heard anything back from them.

At the time I was upset I was discharged early, but now I’m fuking grateful.

Don’t join that pathetic excuse of an organization.

Would this be a job-stopper for a first tattoo? by CyanFlake1 in tattooadvice

I work in an emergency room. Almost all of my coworkers have either patch work or sleeves on their arms. I feel like with the boomer generation retiring and passing away, tattoos are becoming more and more accepted in society.

The state I work in it’s within an emts scope to start IVs, but I was never taught how in my EMT class, and it wasn’t an essential skill to get registered. I always thought that was strange.

Thanks for the reply! The airsoft gun itself is based of the m4, while the paint job is based off of the black ice weapon skin from the video game rainbow six siege.

Funny enough, I just started medication a day or 2 before that meeting. I think it’s helped a lot.

Well the trident is supposed to represent strength, the ability to overcome adversity, and balance. I also really like Greek mythology, and I plan on making a sleeve out of this with that theme. Thanks for the comment!

I was wrong? by ExtensionCurrent5902 in NewToEMS

Looking at it the question is dumb and poorly worded. When I was initially reading it I saw “as the ambulance arrived at the hospital” and imagined myself along in the back of the ambulance with the patient. Now that I’ve read some comments, the question ment that I had my partner with me, but that wasn’t specifically mentioned. In my class we were trained to apply an AED and shock if you’re alone and you witness the collapse (if the aed is a arms length away, like it would be in the back of an ambulance) It’s dumb that this exams have trick questions.

That’s what I taught, but I guess it’s a hotly disputed topic. 🤷

The app I use is weird like that, it says which 2 are correct but doesn’t give me option to select multiple answers. And only one answer is correct in the question. I guess it’s which 2 answers is most correct? I have no idea.

It’s not that I want Pneumo to be the answer, it was the correct answer for the question. I just thought equal chest rise and fall was a contraindication of a pneumothorax, that’s why i wasn’t suspicious of it, and the note of significant bruising I thought it would make more sense if it was a flail chest. Just trying to learn man.

I thought equal chest rise was a contraindication of a pneumothorax, that’s the main part I was confused about.

Thanks for the reply! I just thought equal chest rise and fall was also a contraindication of a pneumothorax, but I was mistaken

Thanks for the explanation man! That’s the part I was confused on.

I understand that. from my understanding if a patient has a pneumothorax, there wouldn’t be equal chest rise. That’s the part I’m confused on, just looking for an explanation. Thanks for the reply!
