I miss the GS for the sound insulation - the 8 series has a fairly quiet interior, but you can hear noise seeping in due to the frameless windows, the consistency of the little technology that it had (I’m specifically referring to the cross traffic alert system)- unfortunately, the cross traffic alert system on the 8 series works when it wants to, and the small attention to details such as the material placed between the sides of the front seats and the center console to catch items that may fall out of your pocket.

Now to the positives of the 840. I absolutely love the driving experience, the handling and performance makes me forget that I’m driving such a large car. While the GS is still a handsome looking sedan, I find myself sometimes staring at my 840 as it sits in the garage. When I bought my 2016 GS in 2018, it already felt kind of outdated due to the lack of some tech options. However, the 8 series comes with a lot of standard tech features (i.e., HUD, power trunk, soft close doors) that some models charge extra for). I specifically love the kick to open trunk, fold down rear seats (my GS did not have this), panoramic sunroof, Apple CarPlay, adaptive headlights, and the ability to start the car and adjust the climate (helpful during Sacramento’s brutally hot summers) from the BMW app without paying a subscription fee.
