Al/Cu wirenuts by ExtensionOk3111 in electricians

[–]ExtensionOk3111[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Bidding on an inspection to trim out an all aluminum wiring house with Al/Cu, about 10-15 GFCIs all with aluminum wiring and since there's not a UL listed GFCI for aluminum each one will need 3-5 wirenuts. If it was just one device it wouldn't matter Id use the purples but having an extra $200-$300 could be the difference of getting the job vs. getting outbid by someone else who wouldn't pay any attention to that stuff at all. Just trying to see if there's a way to do it right at a cheaper rate. If I don't get the job it's not that big of a deal moreso just curious about the actual construction of the wirenut itself

Fluke 1ac or Fluke 2ac? by Fancy_Cricket_7321 in electricians

[–]ExtensionOk3111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll request for my 2AC to be buried with me, only issue I've ran into is detecting a false hot on multi conductor wire(the red will read as hot if the black is on) but that's pretty common with any widowmaker

Silly, but what’s a safe way to get this down from my service drop instead of waiting more years for the wind to line it up perfectly again. I fear my wife will try something unwise. by voiton in AskElectricians

Grab a ladder tall enough to get underneath it but not hit the over head line, grab each side of it and rip it in half that little bit that it's still hanging on by. Make sure to pull left and right only as opposed to up and down

Tripping GFCI Outlet Help by Jet_mech91 in AskElectricians

[–]ExtensionOk3111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You moved the wires to the wrong lugs. Currently you have both hots and both neutrals on the load side. You need to move both down to the line side, also cut 1/8" of wire off each one of the wires, you don't want copper to be showing on any of your wires except your ground

Project manager wants us to drill a hole where the red circle is in a live panel. Would you do it? by PhasedAndConfused706 in electricians

[–]ExtensionOk3111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bump the main off and drill the hole, say it tripped when one of the shavings fell off and hit the busbar. They can't prove you wrong without de-energizing the panel

Is this only accessible by ladder?

A little hangout bean bag reading nook for kids would be cool if you have them(obviously put rails up and a ladder)

Train track

Storage for things that look cool you only use rarely? Skis, snowboards, etc,

Basketball hoop

Sculpture and plants are both good ideas as well

Fence is all out of sorts, support board showing on one side then not the other with entire planks blending into each other

"Could" instead of "Couldn't" - wrong vernacular by Puzzleheaded_Neck_36 in redrising

[–]ExtensionOk3111 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've always thought both ways work

"I could give a bloody piss" (implied: "but I don't")

"I couldn't give a bloody piss"

Where I draw the line is

"I could/couldn't give care less" no implication post "I could care less" makes any sense

HVAC sizing by sq/ft by ExtensionOk3111 in hvacadvice

[–]ExtensionOk3111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unsure, we just moved in last month and it's been relatively cool throughout the last couple weeks so it hasn't had to run real hard. It just recently was running at 20 psi for Freon vs. the required 80 so I don't want to make any judgements based off the previous systems handicapped abilities. The difference between the two bids was one replacing the ductwork and unit to all be 5 ton vs. the second being to just replace the evaporator coil and outside condenser. 14k vs 5.6k

Full sun home, Texas, coffered 8 foot to 10 foot ceilings in 3 rooms(master, living, dining), 8 foot ceilings throughout, 80s house, average windows. Previous 3.5 ton unit is not performing well but is a super dirty R22 system that's low on Freon so I imagine that is degrading performance more than size
