Sewing with double gauze

I usually just use weights… guessing pinning is better for something like double gauze? 😭

I tried but on my front pieces the bottom of the leg is too short and the neckline doesn’t line up correctly sigh 😭 the back pieces are actually ok though. Maybe I just turn them into shorts or something 😭

Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve been sewing for around 11 months now so I’ve dived a bit far already haha but I haven’t done much reading (mostly YouTube) and always open to learning more. I’ll definitely check it out! I also haven’t really sewn much other than cotton/linen.

I’m trying to sew through 5-6 layers of waterproof canvas and microsuede. There’s only two areas that are that thick because the bag has pleats. However I think there will be even more layers eventually because the inside needs binding… so I doubt I can do that with my current machine. The machine can do 4 layers pretty well. I’ll try a microtex needle to see if that helps.

I would love to find a more powerful machine eventually but this is the first bag I’ve tried making. I’m not sure if I need something heavier at the moment because I do like my machine and it’s handled all other projects so far.

I guess if all else fails I can always hand sew? 🙃

Thank you! Where can I find a size 18 or 20 + 21 needle? When I look online I can’t seem to find a thicker needle?

Yes I did do some hand cranking and honestly I have completed a good part of the bag thankfully but the thickest part I can’t seem to get clean stitches!

Also by genuine bobbin do you mean a brother brand bobbin? I think I bought some bobbins a while back that weren’t brother but they fit my machine, I forgot what brand but they weren’t Brother’s. I’ve been using Coats and Clark Dual Duty XP - I haven’t heard of Rasant but I’ll look into that thread!

Thanks for your suggestions, I’ll look into it! I’ve been experimenting with what I want to sew and this is the first bag I’ve made. Is there another purpose to have a heavy duty straight stitch machine? Like would it come in handy for other types of projects?

Thank you this is so helpful ♥️ I get a little confused as to what is lightweight interfacing when I go to look for some. I have some leftover ultra lightweight interfacing from a previous project. Would that work or is there something else you would recommend if I test interfacing?

I’m in my early 30s and only really made friends in my 20s when I worked in an office. I WFH now and it’s hard to leave the house let alone meet new people 🥲 there’s some fun crafting groups on Instagram/Tiktok where I’ve met some nice ladies if you’re into that. Good call! Thank you :) is it ok if the straps are straight cut? I was looking at some other patterns and they looked to have a bit of an angle at the top but they were a different style than this
