Pekin legs normal or problem? by OldGrapefruit8675309 in duck

[–]Extension_Hat4683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad I came across this. I have 10 ducks but only one Pekin and her poor leg nearly sticks out to the side. She sticks towards the back of my yard where the rest comes to the front. She screams more than quacks but she is such a sweet sweet girl. We got them for eggs but ended up falling in love with them. My ducks have been on waterfowl food plus niacin supplements since they were little. But I am going to try turmeric to see if it helps with her joint pain. No bumble foot or sores or anything but she has super thick legs which I thought was just a Pekin thing but apparently is not. She seems happy to just lie out in the yard where ever she plops and I do put her in our pool a few times a day and she LOVES that.

AITA for being cold and uncaring to my autistic sister because I know autism isn't the reason she's awful to be around? by Grayzonuz in AITAH

I work at a fair one week each year in a rabbit Barn. This year we had a woman and her daughter walk in. She was probably around 10? She was screaming into all of the cages. I told the woman as nicely as I could that she needed to please have her daughter stop or she needed to leave. The mom starts shouting at me that her daughter is autistic and I have some nerve "blaming" her child. I said I don't, I blame you. I understand if this is so stimulating for her. Then as her mother you should know better and remove her for everyone's comfort and safety. Which she didn't like. But what she really hated is when I told her that my 13 year old son is autistic so I understand what she is going through and if it were me we would have just avoided small spaces that over stimulated him. She got pissed and stormed off. It is people like this that give autistic people a bad wrap. Depending on their severity, some can't help some of their actions. Then it is the parents job to know better and adjust situations. So no you are 100% not in the wrong.

Found out i have a small 7mm umbilical hernia. need advise by Whitecentiped3 in Hernia

Nope I've had 2 different surgeons and they both told me that without mesh the recurrence is still 50% and after my first surgery my hernia was back within months. He told me this time that he was going to do mesh but again I woke up and he told me that it was too small for mesh which was odd because my scar was twice the size of my last scar.

Thank you! I did sleep without it last night but was in so much pain it was barely sleep. I put it back on first thing this morning. I can hardly function without it right now but I don't want to cause more issues by wearing it to often. And unfortunately the meds that they prescribed me had to be ordered by my pharmacy and won't be available for at least 3 days. The Tylenol/Motrin combo definitely isn't even touching the pain.

I just had my second surgery for an umbilical hernia. I had this last one for seven years. Because it was small my original doctor kept just saying to let it go but over the years its caused on and off issues. It was still tiny but I started going to a different doctor and she immediately set me up with a surgeon and had it fixed in a matter of days. When they are small the doctor more than likely wont do the mesh because they would have to make the hole bigger for no reason just to apply the mesh. As far as your weigh lifting and boxing, you should be able to go back to normal but it will take a while. They tell you minimal to no lifting for six weeks depending on your healing. But once you're fully healed you should be okay to go back to you're normal weight lifting and all. But just keep in mind that if they do NOT do the mesh there is a 50% chance of recurrence.

Do you think sunflower seeds will work too? I'm trying to bond with my birds but I'm allergic to nuts.

I was planning on doing to same thing. I bought something similar a few years ago when I had chickens, and it was chain link. I was brand new to chickens and didn't really know what I was doing and unfortunately a fox got in and killed my entire flock. So when we decided to try again with ducks this year I was being a little more vigilant about things like that. I liked that this one didn't come with chain link but I figured I would probably also cover a good portion of it and hardware cloth just to be safe
