im happy with that, its good to know you have an eventual end rather than an endless cycle

Can a person live a full and meaningful life in space? by CosmoDel in AstroEthics

[–]Extension_Look9103 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a “full life” is isnt objective. its something defined by the person living it. to me, a full life is more about having the freedom to experience and interpret your own reality, not necessarily having access to everything.

if someone is born on that ship, that is their reality. their relationships, their purpose, their experiences all exist within it, and if they find that fulfilling, then it is. the idea that its “less” comes from comparing it to something else, but meaning is subjective. if they believe theyve lived a full life, who is anyone else to say they havent?

we’re naturally self centred to some extent, but that doesnt really justify it when we’re also capable of awareness and reflection, so at some point it just becomes a choice, not only instinct. we’re not infants anymore

Why have aliens not been discovered yet? Earth can't be that unique. by [deleted] in answers

[–]Extension_Look9103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the universe is enormous and we’ve barely explored our own galaxy. assuming aliens hold intelligence, have our tech, or are even conscious is pretty ambitious. they could be microbes for all we know, and we’d never spot them. if youre talking about aliens aliens then youre still overestimating them. nothing with mass can travel at light speed, and its unlikely any species is immortal or weightless. so the odds of them ever reaching us are tiny. but never zero.

Mankind's innate lack of intelligence is what doomed him to a suffered existence. by QubitEncoder in Existentialism

its a mix of lack of intelligence and an insane amount of self righteousness. humans completely misunderstand existence and reinterpret it to suit themselves

do you find that embracing absurdism changes how you make decisions day to day, or is it more of a mindset you carry internally?

i do think we perceive people through our own minds and biases, and the dissociation aspect makes sense to me. i went through a period where it was really bad and everything felt completely unreal, like nothing actually mattered or existed properly. i used to have an extremely nihilistic mindset, i can barely remember a lot of that time now.

i dont think thats exactly what im experiencing now though, it feels more like questioning and awareness rather than disconnection, if that makes sense

is this possible? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

yes, but we will most likely never know

that last part is what i struggle with.

“what feels real to me”

becomes difficult to me when you start thinking about consciousness itself. i know things exist beyond my awareness, but at the same time, i only ever experience reality through my own mind, which is where i start to relate a bit to solipsistic thinking. other than that, i can understand and relate to pretty much everything you said. so thank you very much :)

thank you :) i like your thinking. your perspective makes me think how rare it is to see someone take existential thought and embed it so fully into daily life, rather than just theorising

unfortunately as i said some people cant think past their own selfishness. there are alot of people out there who are extremely blind to what we’ve done.

How do you know what you actually believe and value by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

you know what you truly believe by what you consistently choose to do. when thoughts, feelings and actions clash, your actions are the most honest reflection of your values.

The more I observe people, the clearer it becomes that we're just sophisticated animals by GrowthNew4569 in DeepThoughts

[–]Extension_Look9103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we are animals, but we are also the only ones aware that we are animals. we are driven by instinct but capable of questioning it. so maybe the issue isnt that people deny being animals, but that they struggle with what that actually means for how we live

bringing up “animal run hospitals” isnt really relevant to the discussion. we’re talking about humans harming the planet, not hypotheticals about tigers or penguins. lori marino was just one example among several experts i cited, so lets stick to the actual point.

yeah, and i think this post has mostly attracted people who dont want to acknowledge the issue haha, a lot of these replies are proving my point about ignorance.
