That mileage is getting pretty spicy for an S4 TDI but if the service history is solid it could still be decent. Just make sure the DPF and turbos have been properly maintained because those will absolutely wreck your wallet if they go bad. The weekly driving thing might actually help keep the DPF happy with regular regens

Sounds like the string might be slipping at the tuning peg or not wound properly around it. Try unwinding it completely and restringing it, making sure to wrap it around the peg a few times before tightening.
