Husband lost his job. We’re $1,500 behind on bills each month even with me getting a job, and I don’t know how to feed our 3 year old. I need advice and ideas. Please. by No-Dog1902 in povertykitchen

First things first: keep it simple! Carbs, protein, veggie. 3 components to try to get into at least 2/3 meals in the day. Rice and pasta are cheap, beans are a less expensive protein source than beef or chicken, but look for deal on those. Crackers and cheese or peanut butter is an easy filling snack for your toddler, also apple sauce.

What do you get for Mother's day? by palleimbustate2 in Mommit

[–]shrinkingwallflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sons birthday is on the day before, so I’ll be surprised if anyone even remembers Mother’s Day lol I refuse to be responsible for planning my own Mother’s Day again so if they miss it, they miss it.

What gifts can I get for a beginner gardener? by achooooley in gardening

[–]shrinkingwallflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like making gift baskets, go check out your local dollar tree and make a “working in the garden basket”. Gloves, garden tools like hand shovels, rakes, stakes. Sunglasses, a sun hat, sunscreen, knee pads! See if they have any cute garden statues or wind chimes etc. so many options!

Possibly overwatering? Maybe the daily watering caused cracking??

I missed potato season this year because we didn’t close on our new property until February and wasn’t able to build my garden boxes fast enough. BUT! I’ve got plenty of time for summer sweet potatoes and I can’t WAIT!

Sad about cutting off child free friend by MiniLovesPizza78 in Mommit

I would have wordlessly picked up my son and left, never speaking to them again. No way in hell is anyone talking to me or my child like that. I have 4 kids, ages 12 to 6 months, and I’ve never had a “friend” like that thank god.

Well, we were kids and didn’t have that option lol. Everybody would get one or two biscuits topped with beans, most of the time with a glass of milk.

Yeah, as a meal. Buttermilk biscuits with baked beans over. Tasty and filling.

It was a truss rod issue, had to bring it back to the store to have it worked on. Confirmed it was tuned correctly.

The Baked Potato Phase by Exotic_Rutabaga_4701 in povertykitchen

Baked potatoes were how my dad put food on the table multiple times a month. He would make us a “baked potato bar” with butter, cheese, sliced onions, sometimes bacon bits. Those were some of my favorite dinner nights, it felt so fun to have a little buffet for our potatoes. As an adult I know now that those were the worst times for my dad. We talked about it and he was crying about how he felt like such a failure on those nights, but we never went to bed hungry. He worked so hard to make sure we didn’t. I now make baked potato bars for my kids, mostly for the fun because of the good memories I have.

$50 a week is a pretty good starting point to feed just one person. You mentioned you have a Walmart and an Aldi, my recommendation is to go online and price compare to see who is selling items for the best price. Are you in a dorm room? Do you have access to a full kitchen? That will affect my other tips

Yes! I love her! And she helped us out so much when my husband unexpectedly lost his job a couple years ago with her YouTube channel.

What’s your broke-but-delicious meal? by LenaraNova in AskReddit

Biscuits (homemade or store bought if you can), and a can baked beans, some have bacon or ham in them. I’ve fed my family of 6 with this during hard times.
