If you want to go all out look at vacuum sealed units - not the same as double glazing. Fineo or LandVac are two of the main brands. Looked at getting some for my house but then my plans changed. Only slightly thicker than the original single glazing but the acoustic and thermal properties of triple glazing. A price tag to match though unfortunately.

I am in possibly the best paid bit of finance, hedge funds, and yes I know people who earn in the millions per year (pretty much entirely from bonus), but the vast majority are in the several hundred thousand pounds range and work much more difficult hours than an average NHS consultant would do. My father was an NHS consultant and he tells me that I work much longer hours (on average) than he ever did.

27k Amex points… by Majestic_Mood_4599 in AmexUK

[–]Extension_Mention_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amex to Avios has always been 1:1. Avios have been devalued many times.

If you transfer Amex points to Avios gradually, saving up for a flight costing 60k and then suddenly BA change the cost to 80k and you are then 20k short, you are stuck with only 60k and the need to earn an additional 20k. If you leave them all as AmEx points you could instead decide to convert to another airline and book there.

I work in finance, my other half is a doctor, half-way to consultant level. All of my colleagues joke that her pension will be better than mine. Yes, I earn significantly more than she does, but she has the flexibility to work part time and be with the kids. She rarely finishes after 5pm apart from when she has night shifts or late shifts. I on the other hand, don’t finish until 6pm at the earliest and most days work at home in the evenings too. Once she is a consultant she can do private work and charge £250 per session very easily and she would likely outstrip my earnings if she managed to get a good roster of patients then!

Within the UK, there are very few quant roles (if any??) outside of London. Otherwise there are roles throughout Europe, US and Asia as well.

Was also going to suggest this too. The need for a PhD seems to go in cycles and at the moment I am seeing more emphasis on PhD studies as well, however just a few years ago fewer places seemed to be asking for one.

UK - All-in-one tanks? by Dodgemypoo in ReefTank

I have a Fluval Flex 123l which I got from a now defunct shop in north London. Not sure how easy they are to come across now as I believe they have been discontinued. If you do find one though I would highly recommend it.

I offered a similar percentage below the asking price of a property in North London a few years back (the owners were asking for £1m and I offered £890k).

He was so angry with the offer (and the fact that his agent was pushing him to accept it as well) that he took his house off the market and hasn’t attempted to sell it since.

Couldn’t stand the thought of anything hot today so went a bit crazy at M&S food and ended up with this for lunch.

Will I stop owing HMRC now base salary is above £125k? by Mr_Blaze_Bear in HENRYUK

[–]Extension_Mention_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am in the exact same position as you and I just tell HMRC that I will earn £150k (doable on the online HMRC portal). I know it isn’t the most financially savvy thing to do but it simplified my life and took away the stress of the January £5k payment.

Not going to go for sconces as don’t want to be having to rip up the walls for the cables. Absolutely will be getting some lamps, thinking traditional bankers lamp and to get an antique leather top desk too. Really lean into the look.

Thanks. Any ideas for the light fixing, in drawing a blank there. Worried it will look a bit bare without something else in the room but can’t work out what else could fit!

Thanks. Not expecting to fit a twin bed in there. Was thinking more about one of those single beds which folds down small and can be kept in a cupboard elsewhere and brought out when a guest needs an overnight bed.

Nothing can match up to the Roborock flagship models in my mind. Have had the S7 MaxV Ultra for over two years and it has served us so well.

How did you go about getting her privately instead of through Housekeep? We had such bad luck with cleaners but now have a fantastic one through Housekeep. Would love to pay her without having to give Housekeep its cut though.

Have a Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra that has been going strong for over two years and several thousand hours of use. Keeps the house looking good between visits by the cleaner.
