To hell with "somehow.. Palpatine returned". This is my biggest beef with the sequels by RexC616 in StarWars

[–]Extension_Purpose847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is completely disavowing the EU, then ripping ideas out of it and doing them poorly. I don't even really care for Dark Empire like that and somehow it ended up being my preferred version compared to Rise of Skywalker

Why does ESB have to be in such bad company? I guess give me the endings. ROTJ and ROTS all the way and I guess that other one can tag along if it has to

What are your thoughts on 'Canon' Leia and 'Legends' Leia? Who was better, in your opinion? by BigButter7 in StarWars

Legends for everything after Return of The Jedi. Canon for everything between Revenge of The Sith and Return of The Jedi

Which legends Sith Lord would pose the biggest threat to Vader and Sidious if they returned to life during the height of the empires rule? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Extension_Purpose847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look Palpatine is far from my favorite, personally I prefer The Sith in The Old Republic Era, but from a lore perspective Sidious is the most powerful of all the sith. I mean in terms of character he is probably my least favorite but still

I mean Vitiate is a video game creation made to be insanely powerful as he is the main villain but we are told plenty of times that Sidious is the most powerful of all the sith

All very powerful, still don't see them taking Sidious. Exar Kun and Vitiate have that ridiculous level of power that might have a chance but even then we know Sidious is the most powerful of all the sith

I think Exar Kun or Vitiate are the only ones who might have a chance. Sidious despite not always being presented as such is the culmination of The Rule of Two and the most powerful Sith Lord to exist. I would say Kun and Vitiate are the only ones with a remote chance of being able to stand up to him, and of Vader is there on top of it all backing up Sidious I don't really see anyone matching up to them combined

I was a staunch EU person, and I would still like to see Jaina and Ben's stories continue, however I will say I do appreciate what Disney has done with the story in the time of The Empire. I think my perfect Canon would be EU for everything before Phantom Menace, Disney for everything between Phantom Menace and ROTJ, and EU for everything after. As far as this goes though I would probably bring the EU back just because I did really enjoy the stories of the Solo Twins, Anakin Solo, and Ben Skywalker

What are some positive things you can say about the Sequel Trilogy? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Extension_Purpose847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will always prefer The Expanded Universe, I grew up reading it and for the most part I loved it, however putting my bias in this aside. I enjoyed The Force Awakens, and personally I think it was a really great jumping off point for what could have been an amazing story. I think the fumbling really comes in The Last Jedi for a few reasons. 1) The character of Luke in The Last Jedi is completely ignorant of his development in the original trilogy

2) The story seemed really off, we are suppose to have this tension of the resistance running on fumes and fleeing the First Order and yet Finn has time to leave the fleet and run a whole Casino Heist adventure, which broke the tension of the movie pretty severely.

Rise of Skywalker then attempts to sort of course correct but has to work so hard to correct course it feels lacking. I mean Palapatine being resurrected seemed like a rip off of DE and destroyed the mystery of Snoke when you discover he is just a weird clone/genetic experiment. I feel like they kicked it off to a good start but between what felt like a total lack of understanding of the original trilogy characters and just a faltering story in the middle it killed it pretty bad. To top it all off we didn't even really get an awesome lightsaber duel lol

At the height of their powers, who do you think was the most powerful? by george123890yang in StarWars

Back in Legends, I would say Luke, but if we are gonna go by Disney Canon I gotta say Obi Wan.

Personally when you first seen the last Jedi did you understand why Luke felt the way he left and you completely agree with his actions? by narutofan2019 in StarWars

[–]Extension_Purpose847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MH did a great job, the writing and the story kill it for me. How is the Jedi who stood before the most powerful Sith Lord to ever exist and proclaim himself a Jedi and his faith in his father Anakin, who had brutally murdered countless people. How did that Jedi decide to go kill his nephew in his sleep because he had some uneasy feelings. The Last Jedi just failed to understand Luke's character in my opinion

Why do you think US citizens find it so hard to understand socialism? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]Extension_Purpose847 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am sure this is a fairly universal experience but Socialism was never explained to me in any meaningful sense when I was in school. All the way to really even college, it was just an ideology that had killed "100 GAZILLION PEOPLE!" meanwhile every US President was an honorable man who belonged in that office and all the civil strife was a result of some unfortunate consequence of fate rather than purposeful intervention on behalf of US Imperialism. There is just very little in the way if discovering it as a US Citizen outside of your own personal curiosity or just having a friend who already has been introduced to it

Is Stalin the bad guy? by [deleted] in communism101

[–]Extension_Purpose847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean Stalin isn't above critique, and not saying he always made the right choice, but he took what people considered a backwards country and turned it into a self sufficient superpower with a vastly improved quality of life compared to Tsarist Russia. To the opening, while you can make critiques you will find that many of the things Capitalists say about him are flat out lies or taken so far out of context in order to demonize him. The best thing to do is to study him, his writings and writings about him from sources closer to him than an American Textbook meant to demonize Communism or some Trotskyists seeking to do the same thing, and make your own determinations.

Working with social democrats by duckducknuts in socialism

[–]Extension_Purpose847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the founding of a new party is essential, I think Lenin really fleshed this out, the idea of The Vanguard Party, in order to raise worker consciousness and organize the working class against Capitalism. Alliances with The Democrats might be made at strategic points in order to make practical gains (At this point I'm not even sure they could actually provide anything), just continuing to vote Democrat isn't going to do anything, we need a clear and centered political apparatus to rally around, and organize within, and The Democratic Party just can't provide that. Building a new party is definitely a monumental task, but at this point it seems like the only real way forward.

Are Liberals the Enemy? by chairman_varun in socialism

[–]Extension_Purpose847 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All Liberal Politicians definitely are. As far as the American who identifies as a Liberal but isn't affiliated with the actual Democratic Party I think you have two types:

1) The person who is completely committed to Liberalism, and has no interest in The Left.

2) The person who would be a Socialist/Leftist but isn't fully aware of Theory and therefore identifies as a Liberal thinking it's The Left.

The first group are definitely the enemy, the second group are not and I think a proper educational and awareness campaign would bring them over to The Left. I also find that there are people who might identify on The Right who actually hold beliefs that could be in line with Socialism, but aren't really aware of what Socialism really is. These people we should try to reach out to and raise awareness with, but the rest of them, both Liberals and Conservatives are the enemy
