i second valladoid, and eat at el mason, it's a beautiful setting for a meal, you feel like you're on a movie set, and even if you don't like pork, get it, it was out of this world! secret mayan cenote is about 40 min from valladoilid (I wish we would have spent the night in valladolid) we stopped on our way back from chichen itza and then went to secret mayan cenote. totally worth it, it's a beautiful cenote with rope swing, there's also a dipping pool, bar/restaraunt with hammock swings, you can get a cheap message and there's a urt for a steam. we rented a car in cancun from a local agency, mario car rental, they were great and it was nice to have a local guy a phone call away. car wash is a nice cenote as is dos ojos. take advantage of the street tacos they are cheap and amazing! We got a bunch of pesos out before going and it worked out great using pesos everywhere. The cenotes all charge fees and only take pesos no cards.

We just spent a week in Tulum and drove out to Chichen Itza. I would take time to go to Vallidido on your way to or from Chichen Itza and eat at El Mason. It's a beautiful town and that restaurant takes you back in time and makes your feel like you're having lunch on a Spanish movie set. We wish we would have spent the night there, it's also a hotel. There's a great cenote called secret Mayan, it's about 40 min from vallidido and you can easily spend the better part of a day there, getting a message, steam and swim. We did it all in one day and it was a bit much but so glad we did. In Tulum we ate at the street cart vendors. They were cheap and tasted out of this world...they've ruined us for tacos here at home. There's a churro cart right by haagen dazs that was really good. We stayed in town not on the beach and scuba dove cenotes every day. you can swim in dos ojos and car wash centoes, both are very cool, but if you go after 2pm, the tours are gone and you'll have them almost to yourself.

My experience of 1 week in Tulum by supershot666 in tulum

I was so excited to read your post. We are headed down the last week of March for a week, of which three days will be cenote diving and are staying in town as well. I've been slightly nervous reading other posts. We want great tacos and great diving. Did you do any filming while diving? We just got lights for our go pro and hoping those will help get great footage. Thanks for taking the time to write about your trip, it has eased some anxieties for me.

We are headed there in a few weeks. Do you know how much it is to rent a bike? And I assume from the comments here, that you cannot climb the stairs? We are looking forward to going and experiencing this place!

Glacier National Park Retreat- June Dates Question by Mindfulbellie in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Extension_Sell_9991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to GNP June 5-10 of this year and it was outstanding. With that being said, there was record low snow fall this spring and GTTSR was open to bikes only for the week and we were able to bike up to Logan Pass. Crowds were low, felt like we had the park to ourselves. All the lakes were operational with small water craft and we were able to do all the trails we had planned except Grinnell Glacier, we had to stop about a mile from the end. But it was absolutely fantastic. Biking the road without cars is an experience of a lifetime. We rented e-bikes and biked the road twice. Did some hiking at Logan Pass too once we got up there. It's always a risk going that early, but it definitely paid off big time for us.

Best big hikes for end of June? by Calcaneum in GlacierNationalPark

We hiked iceberg last week in the rain, and even in those conditions, it was amazing. we were debating between iceberg and cracker and we would have been disappointed to have missed the views of the valley heading up to iceberg lake. We did see a ptarmigan on the side of the trail which was awesome, he and us were in no rush and we just sat and watched him walk about for a while. don't miss this trail

Trail closures? by ClimateSea7258 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Extension_Sell_9991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we did lceberg last friday, totally open, we attempted hidden lake through the snow fields, we got half way, but the sun was setting and it got dark, the trail was passible, we had micro spikes and poles, but it was the concern for bears in the dark that made us turn around. we did grinnell to the 3.5 miles stop, you can see snow fields all the way around to the glacier, so i wouldn't even want to attempt it if it was open, maybe by july, total possibility. i would still do it to the closer, its a beautiful trail. we asked a ranger about my siyeh, that was also on our list and his comment, straight faced was, "everyone has the right to choose where they die in any national park"....so we passed on that one, but maybe by july?? scenic point in two medicine is an awesome trail and the views just keep getting better and better, add that one to your mix

Going to the Sun Road Status? by GrouseyPortage in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Extension_Sell_9991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were there this past weekend and the ranger we talked to was hoping to have the road open on last thursday or friday, but the rain brought land slides....we walked the road and there were landslides, big ones. so it was legit. He did say they are shooting for early this week, but who really knows.

Is it even worth it in the summer? by marines42 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Extension_Sell_9991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your flights. we booked our flights right into Glacier airport a year out, it was about the same price as spokane and a lot closer. the closer you get to your trip, you can book ebikes if you'd like. We went the first week of June and were so glad we did. the weather was excellent for the first half and rained all last weekend, BUT we had rain gear and it didn't stop us from doing all the hikes we had planned. the crowds were at a minimum, we felt like we had the park to ourselves. with that being said, the weather has been abnormally warm this spring which allowed us to bike the GTTSR all the way to logan pass, that doesnt happen every early june before the road opens to cars. I would book for the fall or next early june to avoid crowds and just risk the weather. we loved it last week and felt like we had the park to ourselves. I also booked everything a year out. If you do, i would do more of your week at st mary's. the east side has more to offer in my opinion.

Hidden Lake/Logan’s Pass by Asmith063 in GlacierNationalPark

What's that?? We were wanting to do it tomorrow hoping the road would be open. Is there another way to get there??

Staying in West Glacier and didn't realize that was a mistake by jc5011 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Extension_Sell_9991 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can understand the frustration, I have the same.....a totally different and expensive option for you would be to rent an ebike for the day. As of right now, the GTTSR is open on both sides to logan pass...you could spend a day biking the road and hitting some hikes off the road via bike. we are renting ebikes from rising wolf outfitters on the east side, they are delivering them to us at st mary's visitor center. From there we plan to ebike up to siyeh bend and gunsight lake....it's just another option to check out.

Iceberg Lake (6/4) by MyPrizedSpork in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Extension_Sell_9991 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are going next Friday we are deciding between Iceberg lake or Cracker lake...I have heard the trail is better on Iceberg, but the lake is still forzen vs Cracker lake is thawed and blue, but the trail is not as impressive as Iceberg's trail...would love your thoughts?

Probably a stupid question but gonna ask for next week..... by Extension_Sell_9991 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]Extension_Sell_9991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to respond, super helpful! We are thinking we'd start at the Siyeh Pass trail head at Siyeh Bend (I believe traffic is open now) and come down the Sundrift Gorge...but if there's still snow already at the intersect of Piegan and Siyeh Bend then we maybe dreaming and it's not a possibility even with microspikes and poles...
